Just wondering if there are any other moms in the UK area. Everytime I get on here I find people from Germany and other bases. I'm interested in learning more about this UK Virus that has everyone in fear. I suppose I'm one of them as I went to a show yesterday and now feel like *$$. LOL And as it's the weekend I have no one to call at our clinic.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I stayed in bed for the past two days and I feel loads better today. Though there are a couple of people out with the Virus at the base.
Thank you ladies who responded to me.

Hello, we are stationed at RAF Mildenhall, UK but live about 20 mintues from the base. How long have you been stationed here in the UK? Are you enjoying it? I'm not sure about a UK Virus but I know when we were stationed in Germany from 1999-2002 we always heard about the Eifel Crud (being sick with a cold for a really long time). Here, I do notice my children getting sick quite often but I think it has a lot to do with the weather. Take care and message me anytime.

Hi D.,

I am actually from Oxford but currently living in Japan, my husband works on a navy base here. When I was back in the U.K even though my kids are not U.K citizens I took my kids to the local doctor for a minimal fee. You may want to try that if you are ever desperate. Good luck.

We are at RAF Lakenheath. The whole family had it and passed it around. One of my sons and I had it twice. Penicillin seemed to be the thing to knock it out. It turned into Strep Throat in three of us. The fever spikes lasted a long time. Advil/Nurofen was my friend until the fever broke. I am not much of a medicine taking person. However, we all felt so bad that any relief was welcome. Hot herbal teas and the Netty Pot were not enough.
Phew! I am glad it was over just in time to get back to school.

Hey D.. Of course you should know me. I heard it takes awhile to get rid of it. I think Kayleigh has it now because since sunday she has had watery stools and spitting up more. If it gets really bad then you can go to the JR A & E or the Horton and it is free. You would just have to pay for any meds. You just dont want to get dehydrated. Well you know how our base is, clinic is closed most of the time. Dont push yourself when you go back to work and drink a lot of water. Dont want Matt to come back and finding and accident report because you passed out from dehrdration. Well hope you get feeling better. Also see if you can get the flu shot. Caitlin and I got it and we have not gotten sick yet.

Hi D.,

We are also military stationed at RAF Lakenheath, we were suppose to leave this Aug 08, but have been extended to Aug 09. We've been in the UK for 2 1/2 years. We have three children a daughter 17 soon to be 18, but thinks she is going on 25, two sons 16 and 10. I love being able to travel around Europe and I have enjoyed living here in England.

The virus is a type of flu call Norovirus you have to need to increase fluids and rest, once you start to feel good they say you should still remain home for two additional days to not spread the virus. See email below I received last week. My husband is a PCM in Family Practice and so far they have only see a few cases of it here. There isn't much the doctors can do because it's a virus and it has to run it's course, just keep your fluids up so you will not have to get stuck with a needle at ER and receive fluids

All facilities and employees need to be aware that there is an increase in cases of the Norovirus and supervisor's and managers need to stressthe importance of proper hand washing. Also if you have an employee that has the symptoms associated with the Norovirus they need to be excluded from handling food for a minimum of 3 day after there symptoms have cleared. If you have any questions please contact the Public Health office at ###-###-####.

About me.
My name is T. and I am the mother of a wonderful little girl named Havanna. She is now 20 months old. We are stationed at RAF Mildenhall. We've been here since Dec. 1st, 2005. We are suppose to leave here in November 2008. We would like to stay overseas as well. I would like to go back to the states and not have to put my daughter into daycare. It would be nice if she could just start school. My husband and I have been married for 2 1/2 years now. I don't know if you have an ER on your base or near it, but they are not usually busy. My daughter has this bug as well. They say to just keep fluids up, rest, and make sure you stay at home for a few days. Did you try the Nurse Advice Line? The number is 0800-896-409. Just dial that and they can give you more options from there.

Hello
My name is H. and we just relocated to Germany-Baumholder- and I have had the "Flu" for 2 weeks now. My husband Jason-Capt Army-is starting to have the same symptoms and he went to the Dr today and was told it is a virus and lasts 3 weeks. It started about like a cold-then hacking cough and sore throat and joints. Is this the UK Virus? The Dr. told him it was running rammped around here.
We have three little girls and they seem OK.
Thanks for your advice.
Blessings
H.
