I am wondering if anyone has delivered at Montgomery Hospital and if so, what your experience was like. I will have a VBAC delivery, so any experiences of anyone who has had a VBAC at Montgomery Hosp. would really be helpful.

What can I do next?

Hi, S..
I had my daughter there about 3 years ago. The worst thing was the food!!!! I had some complications, so I was there for 7 days and I was not able to eat any of their food while I was there for those long 7 days...the food there is NOT edible. But most of the nurses were great except one that brought me the wrong baby which was pretty unbelievable and shocking to me, especially when they only had one other baby when my daughter was born. And one time, my baby came back from her bath, she had some kind of heat rash all over and my daughter felt warm..people think the water might have been too hot. So I would say I give 2.5 stars out of 5 if I were to rate that hospital to have your baby. I chose that hospital instead of Suburban Mercy because my doctor who told me that Montgomery is better than Suburban and I totally trust my doctor.
Whatever you decided to do, good luck with everything and congratulations!

i did very very long ago... 1998 :-) i actually liked my experience there better than at bryn mawr, the rooms are really really nice at montgomery. my deliver went smoothly tho, no complications and my doctor was on point! so that all factors in as well...

one thing i did want to mention. when you get your ultrasound... i would ask if you have to go there to their ultra sound department, because i have 2 friends that couldn't find out the sex of their babies because the tech "couldn't tell"... and then one other friend who was told she was having a GIRL... the tech even typed, it's a girl on the picture... and guess what she had... yep.. a boy :-) i knwo that stuff happens but that's too often for me... technology is too advanced today, and if they can't tell the sex, then what else are they missing??? just thought i'd mention that.

Congratulations!!!!

I had both my boys there and everything was great. We took a tour of the maternity ward a few weeks ahead. Sounds silly, but you get to see everything and ask any questions that you might have.

I delivered there in Feburary 2009. I had a great experience. All of the nurses were very nice and helpful. The doctors were great. My delivery was very fast so I did not have any experience with the epidural doctor, because I delivered about 45 minutes after I got there. The doctors that saw my daughter were very helpful and explained everything completely.
The only down side was the food was terrible. So I would suggest bringing your own.
Hope this was helpful and good luck to you and your baby.

S.,
I recently decided to deliver my second son, due on October, at Montgomery Hospital after having a terrible experience with the nurses and room at the Mercy Suburban Hospital with my first son in 2007. I like the fact that you can preregister in order to avoid to wait with contractions at the registration office as happened to me at Mercy. You can schedule a visit and see the rooms. They recently add a new wing with brand new rooms I could not see because they were busy. I will not hold myself back because of the food. Likewise, I've never heard the food at hospitals is of gourmet style. Moreover, the nursing section is much bigger than Mercy and the rooms are much more comfortable. The nurses are very diligent and if you plan to deliver VBAC, talk to your practitioner and be sure that he or she delivers there. My OBGyn does not deliver VB, but I did not have my practitioner serving me with my first child. I delivered my first child as VB and plan to do the same with my second one. Wish you the best in your choice.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I, too, delivered at Montgomery (December of 2007). I delivered my first two in AZ and the healthcare system there is 1000 times different (MUCH better) than in PA. The hospital itself was fine, but my experience - not so much. I ended up having a midwife, because my doctor FORGOT I was scheduled for an induction. When I had complications after the delivery there was only 1 nurse in the room with the midwife and when she asked for another nurse to help care for the baby the charge nurse just walked out. SO, the baby was just put in the warmer crib and left there while the 1 nurse and the midwife were trying to help me. I would never again deliver there. As far as the food, I requested a fruit platter and they brought up the most delicious plate of fruit ever. Go figure. =)
