Hi S.-

With my first child I used an Avent manual pump and did great with it. I just had my son 3 months ago and I tried to pump with it again and found it wasn't working out well so my husband went and bought the Medela Pump in Style Pump. It is a costly pump about $300, but it has been worth every penny as I am only pumping now and feeding my son with bottled pump milk. I like the fact that it is a double pump and within 15-20 minutes the pumping is done. I had a problem with the flange size as the one that comes with the pump is the smallest size. I had to buy the XXL size. You have to make sure you have the correct size or it will make your nipples sore. Besides that I love the pump. You can also check with the hospital about renting a pump as well. We had that option. Good Luck and congrats!

My suggestion for a really great, affordable pump is the Lansinoh double pump. I have seen them at Target/WalMart. I bought that when my son was about 3 months old and had burnt the motors out on 2 others, one was a Medela which I loved, but it was a single pumper and pumping at work burnt the motor out because it was used so frequently. The Lansinoh was really easy to break down for washing or traveling and packed up pretty small so I could tote it with me. By the time I was done using it, it still worked like day 1! It was a little over a 100 dollars, and well worth it!

I would definitly get a medela. I also recommend that you spend the extra money nfor the double pump. I got the single for cost purposes, but quickly realized that it cost more in the long run. It takes twice as long to pump at work, therefore I lose twice as much time at work. I really regret not spending the extra money in the first place. Hope this helps!

Oh, I would also add extra warranty onto it, if the store offers it. Just in case something happens, you don't want to have to replace it! I know babies r us offers a protection plan.

I loved my Medela. There's a reason so many of us use that brand! I got the one that came with a backpack, and it was awesome for traveling.

Good luck with the pregnancy!

I used the Medela Pump In Style - it's pricey, but worth every penny IF you plan on pumping a lot. My son was born early, so I pumped exclusively for 10 weeks using this pump. It's the best grade below hospital grade. I also used this pump for my second son, which I ended up pumping for the first month due to problems with him nursing.
