I work at home and have a 2 1/2 year old son (as well as a two month old baby girl) and I'm wondering what are the best toys or activities to keep my son occupied while I work? I'm just really wondering what would be best to get him for Christmas to help keep his attention and entertained.

What can I do next?

I too work from home, but mostly I work while the girls are napping.

When I do have to work on the computer or such I usually put in a movie.

Our firt daughter NEVER let me do anything without her being RIGHT there, but our second is very easy going and plays with Mazie or by herself and it is okay with that.

What are his favorite toys? Coloring is another activitie that keeps them ocuupied for a bit, FOR sure get the colors or markers that don't ruin the carpet. LOL

Another Idea is to get a preschool computer so he thinks he is working LIKE YOU... :0)

What kind of work do you do?

Hope this helped. HA

I work AM at the office and PM at home with the little ones (2 1/5 and 7 mons.) so I have about 4 hrs of time that I don't want filled with the TV. The little guys on occasions is not entertained well playing with toys and crawling around doing this and that so he is in his highchair where we can interact more. My older girl does a lot of coloring, cutting and paisting. She really enjoys it. As for toys, she loves dress up, there is not a day she is not in a dress and putting on shoes that she can clanks around in. She (as well as the little guy) still nap so I do get a bit of a break from both of them to work. My girl also has a mini lap top that she can be “like mommy” if she wants too. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Both my kids (3 & 5) are home with us while we work. We do coloring. I also sometimes have them help me tape boxes, pack boxes...they love feeling helpful. After lunch they get to watch a veggie tales/disney video, The rest of the time, they play kitchen, dollies, puzzles...we cook a lot of pretend food. That's something that I can pretend to taste even while on the phone.

Honestly, I started out with alot of coloring books and interactive toys. My son is now 3 and we do 1 show of Dora or Diego. Then he plays with his toys for a while, then lunch, then he is allowed to play his v-tech. I love it, because yes it is a video game but helps with spelling, colors, counting. My son has been with me at work since he was 5 days old. They adapt to whatever you give them. Good luck

Tough one! I've worked from home for 12 years, and toddler age was definitely the most challenging! My kids both did well with their own desks and "computers" to mimic what I was doing. At first it was just a cardboard box desk with an extra keyboard on top to bang on. Eventually, we moved up to some preschool and school-age "laptops." My boys loved to act like they were going to the office and really learned a lot of skills like shapes, colors and basic math and spelling with their toys.
Good luck!

I work from my computer, which is in the living room, so I usually talk to my three year old while I work, and I let him sit on my lap at the desk when I can. He talks to me about his toys and he's pretending, and I comment and ask questions back. For times when I really need to concentrate I turn on Noggin for him, it really is "like preschool on TV"!

I also work from home and I have a 2 year old daughter. Although she does not stay occupied for long periods of time she does seem to stay busy once I put a desk for her in my office. She sits at her desk while Mommy sits at my desk. She'll color and draw and put stickers on things. It may work for a little while anyway. Good Luck!
