Any Other Women Have Trouble Conceiving After the Pill?

Hi. I'm 28 years old, and my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. I took the birth control pill (Ortho Tri-Cyclen) for about 7 years. I finished my last pack this past June, and still no pregnancy. The reason I was put on the pill was to regulate my cycle, which it obviously does. I don't have PCOS, but I have been taking Metformin, and one dose of Clomid which didn't work. I'm interested to know if any other women had difficulty conceiving after being on the Pill for an extended period of time. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Don't stress out and relax. I was on full birth control for about 9 years (DepoProvera) stopped and started the pill inacurately. Conceived our 2 and 1 year old while inacurately taking the pill. If it's meant to be your time will come. I am now 36 and never planned to have an additional two, as our oldest are 17 and 12. God planned this for us.

Use mymonthlycycles.com to track your period and ovulation. It worked for me and several others I know. I discovered I ovulate later in my cycle becuase my cycles are about 35 days on average.

It could tame many months to several years to conceive after years of taking the pill.

If you are still concerned after another 6 months, try looking into fertility testing just to be sure

It took me 1.5 years after getting off my birth control to get pregnant. I was only on the birth control for 2 years. Sometimes it takes your body time to remember what it is suppose to do. Birth control makes your body think you are pregnant and prevents ovulation. Your body hasn't been ovulating for 7 years. It will take time for all the hormones to get out of your system.

Before tyring to go to a fertility clinic...you are far too young for that...try changing your diet and sleep patterns. I have worked in the medical field for 22 years. I have 5 children. I am 42 and just had another one. Secret....
Spinach every day, no sodas, only juice and water and milk. No caffeine.

I have a great quick recipe for spinach. Sautee fresh spinach in "I can't believe it's not butter" for 2-3 minutes (until just soft) add sprinkle of garlic. Spinach is an excellent source for iron. Make sure you get plenty of rest. Basically...get your uterus ready to carry a fetus. Taking the pill has metamorphasized :) your normal cycle. You just have to get your uterus ready and healthy. Refrain from sex for at least one month. Give yourself a rest.

You can get fresh spinach in the salad Section.

It took me nine months to get pregnant after stopping the Pill. My cycle was never regular after I went off birth control, so it was really hard to time everything right. I never tried taking my basal temperature and all that to figure out when I was ovulating, though.

The thing that I honestly believe helped me was acupressure. I borrowed some books from the library that showed which spots help fertility and then followed a daily routine. A month later, I was pregnant.

Good luck.

I am not sure of the BCP question, however I frequent a infertility website support group and I am fairly certain someone on there would have the answer to your question. It is www.fertilethoughts.com I would go to the Infertility forum and then there are several threads to choose from. If you end up needing to go to an RE (Reproductive doctor) I highly recommend mine. He is in TO and is very skilled, compassionate and understanding. Best of luck to you.

It took us over a year to get pregnant after stopping the pill. I was only on the pill for one year. I don't know for sure if it was the hormones from the pill still in my body that made it hard for us to conceive or not, but I believe it was because it only took us a month to get pregnant with our first child. Keep trying and good luck!

Just an F Y I -
I was on the same birth control pill for about the same exact time and I heard from the grape-vine that if you take bc for a long period of time that it might take longer to conceive. So not true! I accidently missed 2 days of my pill and got pregnant. It was a blessing but a surprise. So I would just keep trying and try not to stress about it. My best friend just got pregnant after years of doctors telling her she would never conceive. So it might happen when you least expect it. Good Luck!

Have them check and see if your pituitary gland in your brain shut down. Mine did, not so much from being on the pill so long, although that makes it hard to know if your body is functioning on it's own or just with the pill. THe pituitary gland can shut down due to obesity, under weight, stress, or excessive exercise. Good luck.
