Has anyone tried Transforming Debt into Wealth or any other method of reducing debt quickly? Are any legit? Do they work? Which ones specifically?

So what are the more conservative and legal routes to getting out of debt. What has worked for you?

If you are really looking for a company to handle it for you, then take a look at nfcc.org. The National Foundation for Credit Counseling can give you a list of companies that can be trusted to do the job.

Most of them are not on the up and up and you really need to be careful.

Watch it with those places. I am an attorney and signed on with a debt company to help local people once they got sued or had to go to court. After my first referral I quit in no uncertain terms. The company had the person I was to counsel pay a bunch of money to "represent" her with her credit card companies (money she could have spent paying off debt). Then told her to ignore a court case filed against her. Yes--you heard me right--ignore a case filed against her. She was in so much legal trouble by the time they referred her to me it was unreal. I told her to see a lawyer in her hometown and I got out of that relationship with the debt company immediately. And yes---I did report it to BBB. Go to a real lawyer or a non profit group to help you--don't pay a schmuck to get you in deeper.

Hey J.,
Have you ever heard of Primerica? We focus on helping Middle income families to become protected and financially free. We help you get out of debt faster than any other company. We are definitely real. We have an overview as to how we do this tonight if your interested. It's at 7pm in Oakbrook. Or you can schedule a time to get a complimentary FNA (financial needs analysis) report done. And if you like what you see and what we do, then we can start to get you out of debt. Let me know if your interested.

Thanks

I haven't but my ex worked with a debt consolidation service several years ago after having a head injury and no health insurance (ie medical bills and out of work for a couple months). I can't remember which one - check with the Better Business Bureau to find one that is legit. They basically negotiate with the credit cards to get you on a payment plan and not accruing interest anymore. It took him several years to get paid off but he did it. It does go on your credit report, but it looks a lot better than being farther in the hole and/or declaring bankruptcy. My advice: if the plan sounds too good to be true, it is.

If you are struggling on payment go woth lawyer as they can help to settle debt with the Creditors. But that does affect your credit score a lot. I will suggest debt roll that is a solution that helps you identify your payment schedule within your CC and the fastest to get out of them.

See if you can find the provider or else I can give you a reference.

My husband is a bankruptcy attorney and can tell you they don't work, he has seen clients that have tried...if you are interested, he is a solo-practicing attorney and gives free consults to see where and what you qualify for. He is a laid back attorney, (hates wearing suits) and has helped a half dozen of mamasource moms on here, either file or get them into a debt consolidation program. If you want his info, let me know.

Good Luck

Right on, Alice!!! What a fantastic response.

Think of it this way: How many people out there are over their heads in credit card debt? Tons and tons and tons. There are very few, if any of these 'quick/cheap' programs that exist to really help people. Most companies exist to make a profit. They will prey off the most desperate in order to make a buck, which, at the end of the day is the bottom line goal.

Go a more conservative and legal route. Granted, this route might not promise quick results but at least you'll have peace of mind in knowing that you're doing the right thing and keeping your credit and finances as clean and intact as possible.

Avoid these shameful predators.

I do not think any of those quick debt places work. I would talk with a financial adviser. They help you put everything down and show you where your money is going. They can devise a plan that will work for you and what you have. Remember to treat the savings as a bill. That has helped us. I was 19 and stupid. I had a ton of credit card debt and really nothing to show for it. Now we are debt free, minus the car, house and daily bills (electric, phone, etc). All the get rich quick skeems are why people are in such a bad spot right now. The banks made people feel like they could afford much more than they really could. And consequently it has put people in bad spots. I know that my hubby and I make a decent dollar, but we can not afford a house for the prices that most of them are going. But we are trying to live with in our means. We have a condo, but we can pay all our bills every month and put some in the back for a rainy day. Good luck
