Our son was diagnosed last year with ASD as well and one of the best things we ever did was to read the book, "Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder- A Mother's Story of Research and Recovery" by Karyn Seroussi. It is easy to read and the information in it is amazing. The first thing we did after reading it was to take our son off of dairy and the difference in him was amazing. Another good resource would be to go to this website:

http://www.feathouston.org/

They have montly meetings in different parts of Houston and surrounding areas, so if you can make it to one of those meetings then someone there could give you a lot of good info on what to do. There is a lot of information out there and it is very overwhelming. We are still trying to process it all and figure out what to do next, but I think the above resources would be a great starting point for you. I hope this helps!

God Bless you and your family,
A.

I don't personally have a child with this issue, but there's an AWESOME online community called Cafemom. There are groups there of moms who's children have this and you might find more answers/support there.

Kim, I do not have any children with Autism but one of my firends from church has a child with Asberger's (sp) Syndrome and has created a website to help parents with this. She is a single mom and is doing an awesome job. If you would like to check out her website, maybe you can get some more questions or help there as well.

Good luck and I know that you will do fine!

Hi Kim,

How old are your children and what where some of the things they did that brought you to believe they might have mild autism? I am curious, because I have a 4 year old son that goes to PPCD for speech therapy and developmental delays. He has never been diagnosed with anything other than the above, but at times we think he shows "some" signs of mild autism. We have recently moved to the Atascocita area from Ft Worth and we have his first appt. with his new pediatrician tomorrow, so we hope to be getting some more answers from him. Anyway, any info. you can give me as to the steps you took or what lead to their diagnosis, I would appreciate it. What area do you live in?
