My daughter is in Iraq. Things have gotten hard for her over there. I'm finding myself unable to sleep at night having bad dreams. I'm hoping someone else dealing with this could offer some advice on how to deal with pain and heart break a mother feels in this situation.

What can I do next?

My son is only 20 months, but I've constantly thought about this as a possible future situation since before he was born. I would be so torn apart. You have been brave for this long and you probably give your daughter the much needed support that keeps her doing her best. What a wonderful person she must be!

I'm sorry I can't offer any advice on how to deal with the pain. It would be great to find a support group in the area for other moms of soldiers, or maybe you could start one for the area if there isn't one. Just know that your daughter chose to go over there because she is so strong, and she got that from somewhere (meaning you, so stay strong, too!!!).

My prayers are with you and your daughter....

I am the mother of 5. My oldest was in Iraq back in 2002. It was very h*** o* me to think of my oldest son over there in harms way. I took it day to day. Many prayers. And good friends to talk to. Talking helps immensely.

My brother was over there for a very long time, my mom and dad went through kinda similar thing...but the most important thing to keep in mind is that you raised a young girl into a beautiful woman and that woman know is fighting for our lives so that we can rest in peace @ night when we lay down our heads, so no matter just remember that you have somethin to be VERY proud of, so hold that head high no matter how much it hurts......J.
p.s. Please let me know how she is doing.

well im not a mom of someone out there, but my husband is out there. you can never really say the right words or give the best advice on how to cope with it, but all i can say is just to take it one day at a time, write to her every day, send pictures, and little things to let her know you love her. its hard knowing that they are out there, but its their job, my husband has told me not to listen to the news that much, they only give you information about the bad thing. he does not like being there but he says they get into a routine and its like any other job, just with a little more risks. if you need anything or just someone to talk to send me a message
i hope i can help even if it is just a little

I never had a child in this situation, so i guess i can't relate and my response may totally be of NO help whatsoever to you. But my husband was in the military for 3 years and he spent almost 10 months in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, so i can relate on that level. Sending someone you love over there is the hardest thing you'll ever have to do. Spending days and nights not hearing from them, wondering if they are okay...it's a feeling only another person in the same situation can understand. Just pray and pray hard. God will protect her! She is doing a brave and commandable thing, which i know you already know. You will make it through this and she will be home soon and then you will be able to breathe...

My husband is my hero and the the love of my life and already server 12 months and is about to go over there again in May. We just had a baby on the 20th of January this year. This is one of the hardest things that life can throw your way. I can's relate on the parental side, but I can assure you that my love for him is equal to the love I have for my beautiful daughter. What I did was send lots of emails to him and made sure he knew every second of everyday that he was in my heart and I was thinking of him. I sent him at least 2 emails a day telling him how much I loved him and missed him, but also you have to let her know that you are very proud of her and that she is a hero. You cant have her feeling bad for you when she already does first of all, but she has very important tasks that she needs to focus on to insure her safety. I know it is very hard but just let her know that she is loved and missed. Spend alot of time with all your family and friends, set up lunch dates with friends and family, make the time go by faster. Go window shopping alone to get things off your mind. Go sit at a park or by a pond or lake and let your thoughts just flow, it is always good to have a good cry, but just keep faith in goodness and she will be back home bfore you know it. I hope you find some comfort in the ideas that i have shared with you. They really will help you out alot, I promise. Smile she is a hero!!
