My 10 year old is starting lacrosse this season. I know nothing of the sport. if any of you have any wisdom you can share with me that would be great! I am also on a tight budget so good deals and best quality for price are important as well.

these are the items I need info on...
stick size/ length and stick brand
goggles what brand?
mouth piece sizing?
cleats nessisarry? is there a specific kind to get?

Thank you soooo Much!
I have tried googling it, and found a few things on the stick size, but would love clarification on cuting the stick/ resizing so it will last a few seasons. I know you cant reattach it, I just don't want to cut it to short, need to know what length and how to do it.
My DD is about 4 and 1/2 feet
62-65 lbs
Thanks!
E.

What can I do next?

My daughter played field hockey, similar. Your best bet is to go to a good sporting goods store. These sports are dangerous you need the right equipment.

I have never heard of resizing the stick. How could that even work? You grow bigger, not smaller and there is no way you can reattach the part you cut off without the stick falling apart when you use it. There is a fair bit of play in size so you should be able to get a couple years, maybe more out of one stick. My daughter used the same one all through high school.

I played lacrosse for a few years. There's a difference between mens and women's sticks (the guys have bigger baskets on the end). I preferred a wooden stick vs metal, but I'm the minority in that regard. Soccer cleats are best, any old $1 mouth piece will work. I never had to wear goggles. I believe sticks are all one size, you don't have to size them like a hockey stick. Dicks sporting goods, if you have that there, ROCKS some lacrosse stuff!

Have fun! It's a blast to watch!

For the first season of a new sport, go with the cheapest that you can get of everything, which is what you'll get at a sporting goods chain (like Dick's). $1 mouth guard (they're sized by age range), $30 basic stick (make sure it's for a girl, the starter sticks are usually all the same size), $30 goggles, and cleats can be the kind that you wear for baseball or soccer if you can't find LAX ones. They're very similar. They probably have a stick/goggle package. STX brand has some decent starter stuff.

Also check craigslist or any sports consignment shops. We got all of my son's first year equipment (except the stick) at a sports consignment store. You're lucky she's a girl - the boys have to wear helmets, chest protectors, shoulder pads and elbow pads.

Sizing the sticks are only for older and more experienced players who are going to stick with the sport for more than a season. If she gets serious about it, then she may later want to get a better quality stick with a lighter shaft, custom head, etc. but for the first year or two, the standard cheapie sticks are just fine.
