Any Insight on Delivery at Mills-Peninsula Hospital & Their Birthing Center?

I'm due end of July - August 1st for our first baby and will be delivering at Mills-Peninsula in Burlingame. While I love my doctor (Dr. Henry Hamilton), I'm wondering how the facilities are, and how the staff, nurses, etc are at Mills Peninsula. I'll be scheduling an appointment to have a tour of the facilities, but in the meantime, I'm interested in anyone's experiences with the B'game Birthing Center so that I have a heads up on what to expect.

Thanks for any insight!

Hi B.,

Mills-Peninsula Hospital is the best place to deliver your new baby, the midwives are the best, the lactation educators are very helpful if you plan to breastfeed, the nurses are wonderful. Very clean. I can't say enough about this place
you will love your stay at Mills-Peninsula Hospital. My daughter delivered my grandson at MPH and she lives in the eastbay. We had the pleasure of experiencing wonderful Memories. Congratulations to you and your husband on your new baby. God Bless you.

B., I delievered at Mills Peninsula a year ago and I have to say it was great. The facility itself was clean and the security is great. The birthing rooms are spacious and comfortable and the you get your own suite to recover in. The rooms provide a sleeper sofa for dad too. But the best part was the staff. I cannot say enough. The delivery nurses were amazing and really offer you one on one attention. As well as the nurses for recovery. They wouldn't hesitate on any request and I felt very comfortable with them caring for my newborn son. I definitely recommend a tour of the facilities to familiarize yourself with the floor. Overall, they are excellent. I would want to deliver anywhere else.

Hi B.,

I had my daughter there at that facility in September of 2006. The staff there are extreamly nice. They always are comming in to check up on you-when there are no other complications with anyone else- but usually they are always on hand when you need them. I would highly recommend having a baby there. In fact I was also born there as well. so i guess it was like a tradition or something. b/c most of my cousins were all born there in the late 70's early 80's. so its a great place. take a walk areoung the hospital and if you can talk to some of the nurses and check out the wards and stuff. you can even walk by the littel Nursery where aome of the baby's sleep at night. They even have a system of bracelets that they keep on you and the baby and the father, that if you tak ethe baby to a certain point of the hospital an alarm will sound and so noone can take off with the baby. the food was great and the service was wonderful. Good luck with the birth of you baby! and congratulations!!

I CHOOSE a MPMG Doctor so I CAN deliver at Peninsula.

I had my two boys at Peninsula. The first one when the Birthing Center opened in 1996, and the second one 5 years later in 2001. It was a wonderful experience both times. When my husband wasn't quite to the hospital yet, my nurse was my coach through my labor until he came. She was awesome (retired now), but I actually asked her to finish with me - because my husband just didn't know how far I was into transition and was coaching me for a much earlier stage. My doctor even got me through a lot of back labor in 2001 - very personal experience.

Everyone seems so calm and pleasant. It was nice. They are very attentive to new moms, and give experienced moms as much space as they need. I'll deliver my 4th child there this fall (Due 10/1).

I work at Mills-Peninsula and gave birth to my daughter here two years ago. Dr. Hamilton was the assisting surgeon on my c-section. I had a wonderful birth and a great stay at the hospital after the surgery. My nurses were great, private room, and the food was even pretty good!

I recently delivered there with my first son in January. The staff was absolutely amazing. The nurses were great and very competent. I believe they were rated in the top one hundred in the country for L&D. I would definitely deliver my second if I had the chance. Good luck!

I gave birth there in November to my first child, a boy, and ended up having an unexpected c-section. But the experience really couldn't have been any better. The nurses were WONDERFUL! Because of the c-section I "had to" (more like, totally lucked out and got to) stay in the hospital for four days so I had lots of time to rest and to learn as much as I possibly could from all of the staff there. My husband stayed with me in our room the whole time, and so did our son. I would go back there in a heartbeat if we decide to have another baby! Good luck.

Hi B.,

I had my 3 kids delivered at Mills-Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame. I really like the facilities. All the staff were great. What I love the most is that I delivered my babies in the same room where I am. I did not worried about them in the nursery room. All my babies are with me the whole time from the time they came out until we went home.

I wish you safe delivery. Don't worry its a good place to deliver your first baby.

good morning,

I had Dr. Hamilton for my first 3 kids and delivered at Mills Peninsula and had wonderful experiences. He is the best as far as I'm concerned. As long as your Doctor is there watching your progress, you and your baby will be great. I unfortuntly didn't have the same care at Kaiser and my 4th child has Cerebral Palsy. Just want to assure you that you will be taken well care of :) Love him! You will do great! Congats! and the best of luck~ enjoy your time and get ready for the best experience of your life, your new baby!

The room you will be giving birth in is large! It's a really nice room. The room they put you in afterwards is small. The postpartum room that I had was supersmall, much smaller than the one shown during the tour, and out of date. Maybe they didn't bother updating the heating system in that room since they are building a new hospital anyway. Most of the nurses are nice, but I gave birth while there were union negotiations going on, so I think they were understaffed. I LOVED the nursery room nurses. My baby had jaundice so she had to stay an extra few days after I was discharged, and they let you stay in a hospital room for free, no charge. Overall it was a good experience. They are really accommodating. I heard Sequoia is pretty good too. Just a word of advice, don't be afraid to ask the nurses questions or request things, because they'll forget or think someone else did it. I forgot that I had to put the baby to breast within 2 hours of birth. 8 hours later, in the middle of the night, a nurse asked if it was time to nurse the baby, and I was like, I don't even know how to do it! Good luck!

Last February, I also had my baby at MP Burlingame and my doctor was/is also Dr. Hamilton. What's really great is that he makes a point of being there to deliver most all of his patients, as opposed to having an "on call" doctor available. When my son's heartrate dropped during labor, Dr. H was there at 1am for an emergency C-section, and he came to check on me early every morning while I was there. (I stayed 4 nights because of the C-section). In addition, the rooms were spacious and well equipped and the staff couldn't have been any better (and being there so long, I met a lot of the nurses). I almost wished I didn't have to go home! They also give you a large boppy-like pillow to take home, so don't bother buying or registering for one. MP offers tours of the birthing center, given by one of the nurses, that was very informative and definitely worth taking.
Best of luck, and enjoy your new baby!

Hi there. I gave birth to my son in February at Peninsula hospital. The nursing staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. The facility itself was fine. You really have nothing to worry about delivering there. Best of luck to you!

I had both of my children and Mills-Peninsula hospital and would recomend it. The birthing rooms were large and comfortable with plenty of room for family (husband, mother & best friend). Both times I had a good nurse.

The tour doesn't really give you too much insight... I delivered 4 of my 5 children there, so feel free to ask me any questions that may come up. Congratulations!!!!!
