Hi ladies,
I've been recently anxious. I'm a bit overweight, but I'm looking for a cardio video that will help me to relieve some stress. I used to do Billy banks (I think!) a long time ago. Any suggestions would greatly help me. I'm self motivated and need something to do at home. thanks girls!

I really like Mechelle's Way videos. I think she has two of them out that you can find on Amazon. It is kickboxing, but I like it better than Billy Banks. It probably helps that I took classes with her for a couple of years. She does a lot of self-defense education along with the workout. My cousin really likes the videos from the woman that is the trainer for the Biggest Loser, can't remember her name. Have fun and good luck!

Hi C.,

I do almost all my exercising at home (rather than at a gym). I have most of Jennifer Nicole Lee’s DVDs and do like them. They are all about 30 minutes with an optional extra mini-workout (which is just part of a different workout of hers). I like her DVDs because she is a mom of 2 who was overweight and so the “focus” is on moms even though the workouts would be for anyone. Her Total Body Workout is my favorite, but I also like her separate upper and lower body workouts. She is also not as annoying to me as some fitness trainers.

I also recently purchased the 10 Minute Solution: 5 Day Get Fit Mix. So far I like it a lot because I can focus on different things in a 10 minute workout (I don’t have a lot of time with two little ones and work), or I can do several and get in a longer workout. I also found the trainer helpful and straight-forward rather than annoying or trying to create a persona. I also have and use a Denise Austen Boot Camp DVD, which is a good workout and has two 20-minute options and a stretch workout. She is a little more annoying to me just because she is so perky, but the workout is good.

I think all of these only require dumbbells and maybe a stretch band (for the JNL Upper Body). Most of these combine some cardio with strength or have optional strength segments. I enjoy working out with them and my 3-year-old often does them with me. Most of these also allow you to customize your level by having different people doing the workout (except the 10 Minute Solution) so you can follow accordingly. I have also been watching my servings and food groups (was breastfeeding though so eating all the time) and the workouts have helped me lose more than the baby weight and also to tone up better than I was in college. They are all fairly inexpensive (around $10) but you can also check out your local library or Family Video to preview anything they have. Good luck and have fun!!

I've done the billy blanks bootcamp workouts, Jillian Michaels 30 day shred is great, and for fun and a change of pace I like hip hop abs - specifically the cardio fat burner dvd. That you can purchase on ebay. I actually rotate all these workouts with treadmill, because I get bored easily( or maybe sometimes dread) working out. Switching it up also keeps your body guessing, and fat burning more effective. Good luck!!

Brazilian Body is pretty fun, so is Yoga Booty Ballet. Tracy Anderson's dance cardio video is good if you are self motivated to learn the dances, she doesn't cue. It is VERY challenging however and high impact. I LOVE her mat workout. I'm down to pre-pregnancy weight and I even have ripped arms that I never had before.

If you have a Wii, there's a game called My Personal Trainer that's great. It gives you a different workout everyday depending on your level, motivation, goals, and interests. Don't bother with Wii Fit. It's not a good workout.

I just got the physique 57 videos and they are kicking my butt. But they are more strength than cardio (although I haven't done the full hour one yet because I can barely get through the 1/2 hour DVD).

I think the web site is www.physique57.com.

Good luck!

I needed to do more cardio, so I just started a couple of the Biggest Loser dvd's: Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and Cardio Max. I just ordered Power Sculpt. The first 2 are great for cardio. 30 Day Shred is 25 minutes with 3 levels to choose from. Cardio Max lets you customize your workout by choosing from: 5 minute warm up, 20 minute level 1, 10 minute level 2, 10 minute level 3, 10 minute cool down. Short, but effective.

What worked for me was counting my calories (not going above 1400 a day) and doing cardio with this game called dance dance revolution for the playstation. There's also a free one called stepmania that can be used on the computer. You may feel silly but it's fun and helped me lose all my baby weight. My son loves jumping along with me hehe I just don't let me hubby see me haha
