I was a foster mom but of Monday of this week- I closed my home. I had great experiences and lots of joy with the children but be ready because the system is very broken. I was licensed directly through CPS- I would go with a private agency next time.

Hi M.,

I haven't fostered any kids, but I was a foster kid at one point in life, years and years ago. I thought I would tell you my experience really quick. I'm not good with names, I cannot remember half the people I knew during that time in my life, but I remember the names and faces of Joe and Darla so clearly in my head because I absolutely loved them. I came from a very troubled home and cps got involved and I ended up at their home. The love they showed me was everything I needed at that time. I know it wasn't easy for them all the time. There where other foster kids in the house that had been severely traumatized. One boy was sexually assaulted by his dad and he would all of the sudden have anger fits, he would then start moaning really loud, then he would start crying and hitting himself, it was really scary. They where really patient though, they would wait until his episode was over with and would then slowly start talking to him. You have to have a very understanding heart, put yourself in their shoes. If I could foster kids, I would without a second thought.

Hello M.!
I am not a foster parent, but my cousin and his wife have 5 foster children. They could not have their own, so they decided to become foster parents. It ended with them adopting all the children they came in contact with. They have been SO VERY happy and content with their decision and they are wonderful parents. It is amazing how God works, because 3 of the children you could never tell if they were from another parent. My cousin and his wife are great advocates of the fostering method. There is not one regret they have and it has been and still is a wonderful journey. I also know a woman who fosters babies. She has had over 100 babies in her house. They don't stay long, but some have stayed for as long as one year. She never has anything negitive to say about the process or the system. I think it takes a very special person to handle such a quest and anytime we, as adults, can make any kind of positive impact on children at any age, we should take that seriously. We may never see the end result, but I know God places people in our lives for a reason. That is what it is all about.

I am a foster parent with Covenant Kids. I adopted my daughter out of foster care. She was 10 days old when I received her and 10 months old at adoption. We returned to active status last September and are waiting for a placement now. Depending on what age, race and type of child you desire will determine how easy it is to get children placed in your home. If you want pre teens or teens and are willing to deal with medical and behavior issues you could have children placed very quickly. If you desire babies with no medical needs it could take longer (that's the boat we are in). What are you interested in? Foster only or foster to adopt? What age and type of child do you desire. Feel free to email me privately if you want. ____@____.com
