Any Experience with Hernias?

Hi ladies
9 months ago, I had an appendectomy and 3 days later I gave birth to our daughter. (A miracle situation by the way). Well, now my stomach is still out and looks like I'm pregnant...still. Sure enough, I have a hernia and will likely have surgery. It is pretty much mostly on the right side, but is it possible that I could have had more than one type of hernia? My stomach is pretty much messed up across the board. Anyone have any experience with this or with hernias in general? Thanks in advance!! :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Definitely a hernia! I went to see my surgeon today and she verified that it was a hernia and set me up to schedule a cat scan to see how intense it is. thank you for all of your insights and help! It was all really helpful and I appreciate it very much! God bless!

After my third baby was born I had an umbilical hernia. It was repaired in out patient surgery in an OR when he was about 3 1/2 months old. 4 years later I became pregnant w/ a big baby girl. I had no problems w/ the hernia repair.

In 2007 I was going for physical therapy for a lower back injury. I received it trying to hold a squirming toddler while standing for a long period of time. 5 months into PT I had stabbing pain by my hernia repair. A surgeon looked at it & said it was inflamed but not torn. Ibuprophin was what helped that go away. No problems since. I have done lifting for work for a few days now & no pain.
Best of luck.

I have a hiatal hernia, however not from after a surgery. Mine is at the bottom of my sternum. Gives me all kinds of fits but I'm not a candidate for surgery at this time.
If you are not comfortable with the diagnosis or care you've been given, by all means, seek another opinion. Rather see you spend the money on more knowledge and peace of mind that to make a potential mistake.
Good luck to you. Hope all turns out ok. If you need to talk or anything, message me here. T. M.

Hello K.:
hernias are somewhat common after a surgery. But it is something that need correction. You need to talk to your PCP or call the surgeon that did the appendectomy. Make sure is a hernia and not something else, don't wait just call the docs.

3 years ago I had to have surgery for an umbilical hernia. I kept feeling this little bump in my navel, sometimes larger than others, but when I would cough or sneeze, I literally would have to hold my navel with my hand because it would hurt soo much. Anyway - - I had the surgery, no problem. They put a mesh cover under my navel between my muscle and the intestinal wall. It definitely fixed the problem. One year later, I went to my annual GYN visit where I told her I wanted to have a tubal ligation. She told me I could never have my tubes tied because I had the surgery and they could not re-enter through my navel (which is where they enter for tubals apparently). I was very upset because nobody had ever mentioned this when I had the surgery. So my advice to you, if you are ever considering having tubes tied, talk with the docs before the surgery. By the way - - congratulations on your little girl!!!
