Any Advice on Pregnancy After Miscarriage?

I am on pregnancy number 5 but I only have my one 8yo daughter so I have a tendency to get nervous. I had a scan at a not for profit center when I was 6 weeks and 3 days and we were able to hear a hb of 156, I was thrilled. I am now at 13w 3d and have over a week until I have my first us. At the 12 week mark I started bleeding heavily but no pain and no clotting. I went to the dr who did no heartbeat monitoring no us just bloodwork and urine screen. They said as long as I have no pain or clotting I was fine and shouldn't worry but after 3 miscarriages it's hard not to worry. My hcg levels came back at over 108000 but the levels take time to go back down even after miscarriage. I was having terrible morning sickness which has stopped but that could be normal for the place I am at in the pregnancy..just looking for some reassurance that this isn't necessarily loss number 4.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went to the er today because I started passing massive clots. They did more bloodwork and an u/s. They found the heartbeat at 151 and said baby looked good. So why am I passing clots?

No heartbeat monitoring during heavy bleeding during a known pregnancy? You need a new doctor going forward because the one you're seeing is negligent. You should be seeing a specialist as well, given your history, and being closely monitored. Today, go to Urgent Care and tell them you suspect miscarriage. Get a heartbeat and/or an ultrasound..

ETA: I can't tell you why you are passing clots. What I can tell you is that your body is ridding itself of things it does not need. The U/S saw the baby and the heartbeat. Breathe. The more stress you add on yourself - the worse it is.

Stay calm. Stay focused.

I understand where you are coming from...one live birth, miscarriage, another live birth and 2 more miscarriages (22 and 14 weeks - both in the same year).

Please get an ultrasound done. You need to know if you're pregnant or if it was just your body cleansing itself. One of my girlfriends had periods for 3 of her pregnancies - yes - monthly cycles...she was freaked out..but that's how her body worked.

Please call your OB/GYN and ask for a heart monitor or an ultrasound. You need to know.

Sounds like you are high risk and should seek out a high risk dr in your area. Good luck!

get a new dr, if you are super worried about the baby head over to the er and they will do an ultrasound as well as more bloodwork.

I agree that you need a new doctor. My experience is that when experiencing bleeding during a pregnancy, the person is taken for an ultrasound.

To help your anxiety, I can tell you that in this situation (bleeding followed by an ultrasound) everything was found to be ok. But I still think you should get an a more thorough workup. At the very least, I think you should call your doctor and ask for the ultrasound and/or heartbeat monitoring, and for the long term, find a new doctor.

I had 5 miscarriages before carrying my two kiddos. I has a regular OB who wasn't concerned I had 3 miscarriages and wasn't going to do any testing until I had 5 or 6 miscarriages. I then went to an OB who specialized in high risk pregnancies. He did a bunch of testing and made me feel like I wasn't crazy in questioning why I kept losing my babies.

Please consider changing docs. You're completely normal to be somewhat anxious. You should not be brushed off. I would call them and tell them you want the u/s early. If they give you grief, ask to speak to a nurse and don't back down. It's your body, your pregnancy, and your peace of mind. They don't get to call all the shots. If they get mad- too bad. You're not there to be their friend. But I urge you to consider using a high risk specialist.

When I thought I was pregnant with my son, I went to the maternity ward at the hospital (we had just moved to a new city and didn't know anyone to ask) and spoke to delivery nurses and asked them to recommend a doc. When I called the office, I was told it would be at least 6-8 weeks before I could get in. I called my specialist in Dallas (who successfully delivered my daughter) and he called her directly. I had an appointment the next day.

Hang in there. Please let us know how you're doing.
