Ants Taking over My Home... Pregnant, a 2 Yo and a Dog

Hi ladies,

I'm currently very early in a pregnancy and have a major ant problem. I've tried taking into our own hands with EcoSmart spray. This worked somewhat but the smell, although pleasant to a normal person, makes me even more nauseous ;-) They are still coming although not as strong. I've also tried vinegar, cinnamon & baby powder. What a mess!

I've been referred to a place called Green Leaf but their schedule is so booked, it takes forever just to get a quote. I'm not sure if I'm waiting to hear something I can't afford or if their products will have the same effect as the EcoSmart stuff. Traditional fumigators can come out right away but I'm just a bit nervous about using that stuff in the house right now. I've asked my doctor and he said it was fine as long as we were out of the house for the alloted time. The companies say it's totally safe as well.

Are there any ladies that really know how this stuff can affect a pregnant woman? Should I just go with a basic bug place to remain sane?

I've been there with the ants. We were completely overrun with them culminating in dozens of different lines of them on my daughter's first birthday party with people coming to our house. I wanted to avoid anything toxic (not pregnant, but have 2 kids and a cat). We didn't even want to spray outside because the cat and the kids play out there. We've used Terro ant baits. They are made with boric acid, which is alot less toxic than other stuff out there. If the ants are coming in somewhere behind things (or in our case above our cabinets and behind everything you could think of) you place the baits there. They take the bait back to their nest and then they die. You have to let the ants run their course. They will swarm the trap and have a trail leading to it for at least 24 hours but the ants will go away for awhile.
Even when you spray the outside, the ants will come back.

Hi S.,

Ants hate bay leaves, brake the leaves in pieces and spread them Where you find the ants.
Other way: put sold where you thing they have a nest or where you find a lot of them. Then over the salt put boiling water over it. That helps !

Good luck

We have had ants too! I am 36 weeks pregnant and was going crazy as well! We went with an outdoor spray...not chemical free as I would have liked. However, the very next day...the ants were gone and my life is now sane again!

Best of luck!

Hi S., we had a crazy ant problem inside the house and I eventually called Corky's Pest Control after trying everything non-toxic I could think of.
They spray only around the perimeter of the house (not inside) and it totally took care of the ants on the first visit. Now I have them come out regularly. They use "low impact" pesticide (I guess it's slightly less horrible) and have great customer service. I schedule them to come out regularly and I've had no ant problems since. As a bonus, I no longer have black widows in the yard either.
Also, I agree with you - I wouldn't want pesticide in the house either, no matter what the pest control companies and doctors say.
Congrats on your new pregnancy!

Grants Ants. No spray. No smell. Self Contained. Cheap - and available at most supermarkets. Works GREAT!!!! Also, when you see a trail of them - squirt them with 409 cleaner or windex.
