My grandfather died almost a year ago. My mom has been the executor of the will. She has been so busy and stressed out over the last year. She just got finished emptying her parents house and selling it.
A few days ago she was talking to her brother on the phone when another caller kept beeping in. She didn't answer it. When she hung up her iPhone said she had a missed call from my grandpa! His cell phone was cancelled almost a year ago. His iPhone was dead in a box. She plugged it in and there was no outgoing call indicated.
She let it go and then yesterday she got another call from his old number. She knows for sure it's his number because she hasn't been able to erase him from her iphone yet. This time she called the number back. An elderly man answered and she asked if he had just tried calling her number. He said no. Even if he butt dialed her what are the chances of him calling my mom from my Grandpa's old phone number?!
What do you think of this? Any logical answers? There must be a logical answer but all I can think of is hes letting my mom know he's still watching over her.
Another call today! She had the chance to answer it this time and the line went dead. So she called it back. It was the same elderly man she had talked to previously. He said 'honey I promise you I'm not calling you. " lol. Its definitely weird. I guess we won't overthink it too much. They definitely reassigned his number but the man told my mom he has not called her on purpose or by accident.
Most phone numbers ... including cell phone numbers are recycled after 6 months.
chances are it was all accidental dialings.
Hmm. Well, I would just say that YES, he is looking after her. I do not have any logical explaination to offer but I would definately answer the phone next time it says it's him. :)
EDIT: I just thought of this.. if your mom accidentally dialed grandpa's old number then the person who has the number now would have had a missed call. They may have dialed your mom to see who called them. And then it could have been a butt dial later.. ?
Aaaaaw, forget logic, it's just NICE. Can we go with that?

I'm not a big believer in the fact that those that have passed on try to send us messages... BUT... this is a pretty cool story and I would take it just as that!
I think you shouldn't try to logic this out. I am one for believing in circumstances, and a " not just a coincidence". Things happen for a reason. It could be that he was sending her a message to let her know he is there. Keep it at that. I would if it happened to me.
The logical answer? She cancelled his service and they reassigned the phone number.
Better answer? Grandpa is just letting her know that he's still around and checking in on her. That's what I would go with!
Similar story... my grandfather died nearly two years ago. Before he died, he gave my husband (the only other piano player in the family) a box of his sheet music because in his words "no one is playing it and it needs to be played". My husband does play it occassionally, but not often. Most of it is in a box in the soon-to-be nursery closet. We cleaned it out the other day to start putting the baby's things in there and a piece of hand-written sheet music fell out from the "Sound of Music" book... composed, signed and dated by my grandfather while he was completing his doctoral work in Vienna. Even better... titled "The Cradle Song"!
Needless to say, it's now framed and ready to hang in her room as a gift from her great grandfather. I really do believe that the people we love find ways to let us know that we are still loved too!

Sounds like it to me. My dad called my Mom for almost 2 years. There was a message on the voice mail service that showed up a day after his death. I erased it not wanting my mother to get upset hearing it. It kept coming back. I warned my mother about it before I went back home and she called me that night to tell me she heard it and realized I wasn't crazy! He left that message over and over again over the course of 2 + years. I chose to believe it was him letting her know he was looking out for her and he was doing well.
When I got a new cell phone and transferred over the contacts, 2 of them got seriously messed up, and it would show that someone was calling when it was a different person, or I would try to call my daughter and her name would show up as some other person I barely knew. I had to delete all the relevant contacts and put them back in to get it straightened out.
Refurbished number. I have one. I get calls for the person who used to have the number ALL the time.
With that said, your mom should take from it whatever she wants. If she believes it was him, then it was him!!

It's kind of weird that it's your grandfather's number - but I had that happen to me before. I was working a contract job and every time the art director would call my cell phone it would show up on my iPhone as a friend of mine. The numbers weren't even similar. I never did look into it since it wasn't a "paranormal" mix up like your moms. But for whatever reason it does happen with two dissimilar numbers.
