Annoying Shoe Dilemma for 2 Year Old Son

I need to find a shoe store that's more affordable than Nordstrom's, but that has better quality than Payless and has someone who can measure his feet. Any suggestions? Also, if it's in the McKinney area or Stonebriar Mall in Frisco, that would be closest to us.

My son has always owned a pair of Robeez and a pair of sandals in each shoe size he's been in. He's now 2 1/2 years old, and he's outgrown his sandals and Robeez. I know this sounds like an easy thing to replace them, but I've really been stressing about it. I tried Payless, but his current pair of sandals always cuts into his pinky toe, even though the shoes aren't too small or too big. Just a poor fit. I've been buying the Target version of Robeez ever since I found out that they carried it, but they only go to 24 months (he's 31 months and just outgrew his size 3T sandals from Old Navy). We need some new shoes soon but I don't want to spend a bundle and am tired of being in between shoes. Help! Thanks.

My daughter is 2 and she has always had chubby feet. We've had to buy several shoes in a wide at Stride Rite. Their shoes aren't cheap, but they are well made and come in wides which is what we needed. I had a hard time finding shoes at cheap places like Target. Stride Rite carries Keds and some other shoes that aren't as expensive as some of the SR shoes. We've been able to find some shoes to fit her at Target just recently since her foot seems to be thinning out more on the top as she grows. They'll measure his feet there at SR. They say that there should be a thumb width at the end of their shoes for room to grow.

Good Luck!

It's been my experience that I spend as much replacing the cheap shoes as I do buying Stride Rite (I use the exact approach Nicole mentions...as recommended by my mom). The soles and materials of the cheaper shoes just aren't as soft and flexible. He winds up having more trouble with his feet and falling down more in cheap shoes. I do my son's clothes shopping at thrift stores to save money, and I pay the big-bucks for shoes. He only needs them replaced twice a year (spring and fall) (and my son is younger...probably still growing quicker than yours). Just something to consider.

BTW...I'm normally a TOTAL bargain shopper! It's hard for me to lay down the $30 for kids' shoes when I only spend $15 on my own!

I have had good luck finding Stride Right shoes in wides at places like DSW, Ross, Marshalls. Also, check E-bay for Robeez.

A lot of the shoes at Target are actually made by Stride Rite. Check them out. They are around $15.
