Amby Bed

My 4 week old daughter seems spit up much more or only when she is placed flat to sleep. I have seen the claim made by Amby Bed and was wondering if others have used this bed? If so can you tell me what your thoughts and experience was with this bed and if you would recommend it. My daughter does seem to do well when sleeping in the bouncy seat during the day, however I do not want to put her to sleep in the bouncy seat on the floor next to my bed.
Advise on Amby bed and any other ideas welcomed.

Try elevating her crib mattress on one side with some books underneath the mattress. This worked for my son. It may save you some money before buying a new bed.

Good luck!

I bought an Amby bed before my son was born b/c it claimed to help babies sleep longer, be good for colic, reflux, etc. It's worked out pretty well and he likes it every once in a while, but only for short naps. He's never slept in it at night. I will tell you it's a little more complicated than it seems/looks, b/c it's hard to adjust and it doesn't stay adjusted for very long. You adjust it using cloth ties, so that's pretty hard to get exactly right and it's often a little crooked and he starts to slip out. It does help lull him to sleep when he's cranky and it will soon turn into a bouncy seat, but I don't know if it's finally worth the money. My son (5 mos now) also spits up a fair amount, so I always put him in his little chair for 30 minutes or so after he eats, and I put his crib on a slight incline. That seems to help. Finally, I think a little swing does the trick just as well, even though you may appreciate the amby bed a little more aesthetically (it is pretty, but does take up more space than I thought it would. Hope this helps somewhat.

I have never needed those things but I did hear great reviews on this. I have met several moms on the bbc forum that swear by it.

If you are breastfeeding try to put your lo in a more upright position while nursing, not lying down. Keep her upright for about 30 mins. after she is done.

PS: this is the amby bed for those asking.

Hi T.,

Your daughter could have a mild form of reflux, which is very common among newborns and most of them grow out of it in a matter of a few months. My daughter, who is now 7 years old, had a severe form of reflux for several months. Is an Amby bed like a wedge sort of bed where the head is elevated? If so, I would use that if I were you, and let gravity help you out a little. I would also roll up a receiving blanket or something, and place it behind her back so that she is tilted to the side just a little bit so that if she spits up during the night, she won't aspirate (inhale her spit up) and have possible problems from that. If the spitting up becomes worse, there is a medication that a Dr. might reccomend to help keep her food down until she grows out of it. Hope this helps and good luck.

I have the Amby Baby and LOVE IT! My daughter slept in it for 2-3 months and it was great. We put her on her side- wedged in between 2 towels. Its easy to travel with and fantastic. The sheets say to hand wash- I put mine on cold, delicate in the washer and then layout to dry and they were fine. Highly recommend the Amby Baby!!!

I would probably save my money and not buy the Amby bed... it would require that you untrain your DS from sleeping there and transition her to a bed later and that could be a problem. Instead, I'd probably shop for the crib wedges that position your DD so that she is reclined in her crib. JMO
I have two children, one 2.5 and the other 3 months. Both children were "happy spitters", the baby still is. I haven't medicated either child. It's a developmental problem for most babies to spit up... many babies are medicated unnecessarily for reflux... as much as 80% of babies that are medicated don't need it... (there was an article about three weeks ago in the Sunday paper on this.)

Good luck ~ it's just a phase... hopefully your DD is still thriving!

Sounds like she may have reflux. All three of my sons had acid reflux. My oldest was one that would spit up a lot. We would keep him up right for least a half hour after eating. And always had wedges under his mattress. Even resorted to having him sleep in the infant car seat for a time. What ever it took for everyone to get some sleep, and make him feel comfortable. I do not know if you breast feed or bottle feed. If you bottle feed, try the Dr. Brown's bottle. They are great to help get less air.

I am not familiar with Amby beds, but I just did an article about babies coughs and included a section on reflux. In my research, elevating the head of the bed is very helpful, as others have said. Even a couple of boards under the legs of the crib (at the head) may be helpful.

Also, always feed your baby sitting up if you can (I know, not always possible)and be sure to burp her often throughout her feedings.

I'm sure others will know more than I do about this, but hopefully I helped a little. BTW, my oldest daughter often slept in her bouncy seat or her baby carrier. She was just more cozy there I think. :)

I don't know anything about Amby bed, but I used to put a rolled towel or blanket under my daughter's crib and bassinet mattress and that seemed to work great as it elevated her head.

if your baby is in pain along w/ the spit up, then please get medical help...I have more to say, lol, look at my signature ;)

I have read rave reviews about both the amby bed and the tucker sling.

If you decide on the amby, maybe look on craig's list for a used one bcse they are expensive...

Hi T.,
Your daughter's problem seems to be a common one these days. One thing you may want to try is chiropractic. Most mom's get sqeamish when that is mentioned but it is so gentle for babies and helps the function of the body so much. They tend to sleep better and have less issues in general. Two of my cousins had babies with reflux and took them to the chiropractor and it helped immensely. They wished they would have gone sooner because they slept so much better too.

i don't know what the amby bed is...but my daughter, who is now 7, suffered from reflux as a baby...
to make her spit up less and to make her more comfortable, the doctor's recommended that we elevate the head of her crib...
we did this when she was 4 wks. old and it really helped a lot..
good luck
