Amazon Question- Shipping Charges

so when you buy something from amazon from one of their vendors do you notice that you have to pay the shipping for each item no matter how many of the item you buy? So if i need to buy 10 bottles of glue I get charged $60 for shipping because they charge for shipping x the number of items you buy? So why would anyone buy from an outside vendor when buying multiples of the same thing? Its kind of stupid. Any thoughts on why they do it this way or rather how to get around it?

with ebay you can contact the seller, but i don't see a way to do that with Amazon so I have to shop elsewhere. In fact already made my order with Blick Art Materials for way cheaper than Amazon (or any of their vendors) could come up with for the exact same product. Payed about $22 instead of $70. I will need to think twice about buying from Amazon even though I love the convenience of not punching in my credit card number because I have the account.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

conclusion, Amazon is not a good place to buy multiple items of the same thing unless it comes directly from the Amazon warehouse.

Nope, that has never happened to me. I order quite a bit on Amazon, so much in fact that I just recently decided to purchase a prime membership for the free two day shipping.
But even before that I always stuck to items with free super save shipping - I don't think I have EVER paid for shipping on Amazon.

I do try to buy from Amazon directly instead of Marketplace vendors if I can, mostly because it's easier to return an item or get a hold of customer service if something goes awry or I get a wrong size... but I have bought a lot of things from vendors lately and never had an issue.

I do think that it is important that you review your transaction before hitting submit... maybe I never had that problem because I'm cheap and I would never purchase something from a vendor that charges an arm and a leg for shipping.

Did you contact the 3rd party vendor to see if they'd combine shipping? I bet they'd do it if you just asked.

The shipment, if any, is listed under the price before you add your item to your shopping cart. When I see that it lists a price instead of "eligible for free shipping for orders of $25 or more," I often go back to the list of items I was searching. Usually the same item will be listed two or three times (from different vendors) and one of them will be Amazon.

I've only ever bought from another vendor a couple of times. It's very rare that I need that item so badly and can't find it somewhere else.

I normally do not order from Amazon unless I get free shipping.

That happened to our business recently although that vendor noticed, emailed us, and offered us more product since he felt we had overpaid for shipping. I know with sites like EBay you can email the seller and request a combined shipping price, but I haven't checked if that would work with the Amazon site. Maybe if the seller has their own business site that you can locate.

Hmm, I've never paid for shipping with Amazon orders.
Now I'm scared ;)

i don't know about glue but i bought 3 cd's and it sucked because they were from 3 different vendors, hence 3 different shipping costs, so if that's what you mean, then yes. kinda bums me out :(

Yes. They suck for that! The only think I can suggest is to see if there is a way to buy in bulk that has cost effective shipping. Also, check outside sites. I like Amazon, but a lot of that stuff on there is pretty commonplace and can be found elsewhere for much cheaper prices and/or shipping. Best wishes.
