Am I Pregnant...? How Long Do I Wait to Get an Official Blood Test?

I am approximately 4 days late, but always on a regular cycle. I have taken two of the clearblue easy tests and they both said "not pregnant". My sister in law just announced she is pregnant and we were pregnant togehter on our first children, so I would like to avoid getting pregnant during the same time as her again. Because both tests said "No" should I go to the doctor (this is Christmas week), get bloodwork, or do I need to wait? I am hardly late, so I am starting to get a little anxious. I hate the not knowing, but not sure I can get in before Christmas... is there a better test I should go with?

Now I am a week late and I will go get bloodwork done on Monday if I do not start. This is very uncommon for me. I do want a couple more children, so this could be exciting if I wasn't in school for another year and had the sister-in-law pregnant at the same time (Again)! I cannot finish school and nurse a new child, so sacrifices will have to be made!! Praying for the best outcome... whatever it shall be!!

So What Happened?

So... I am NOT pregnant! Yeah, I wasn't ready quite yet. I started Christmas morning (kinda odd present) and it led to a very tiring Christmas day, but overall I am satisfied. Thanks to everyone for your response.

You should wait. Periods can be late. Even if you did make an appointment, you would probably have to wait a few weeks to see the doctor anyway. Wait a few days and try to relax. If you period still hasn't come three days from now, take another home test. By that time, you will probably get a bright second line on the test if you are pregnant. BTW, any second line at all, even a very faint, yet colored one, is a positive test. False negatives are common. False positives are very rare.

Stress (no one gets stressed before the holidays, right?), dieting, and being around an alpha female will all alter one's cycle. As of course, does BC pills.

I'd wait a week, and test again.

Just wait a week...most doctors don't want to see you until your about 8 weeks anyway, so give it a week and see if you either get your period or if you get a positive test.

Good luck.

Unless you plan on binge drinking for the holidays, it should not matter. I would guess you are NOT (those tests are pretty accurate), but a few drinks are probably not going to cause any problems even if you are (I was prego for a couple weeks before I knew it and drank on my anniversary...have a healthy 11mo old girl now).
Sometimes our bodies just do goofy things and maybe you are just late. If you don't get a period (or positive prego test) by Monday, I'd call the Dr. and they can run a series of blood tests to see what is going on with your body.
(P.S. I know the anxious feeling--I get it ALL THE TIME after a surprise pregnancy, but try to enjoy yourself over the holidays... Baby or not, life will be wonderful for you either way!)

Most over the counter preg tests measure the same hormone...I am a cheapskate and buy mine at the 99 cent only store. It's the same thing the drug stores sell for much more. I can test for several days in a row if I feel curious..it's so cheap.
I have tested neg at first, then positive three days later. Indulge in cheap preg tests if you are dying of suspense...it's the holidays!
Best to you.

I would wait to take another test until after New Years. I am actually in the same position. I am 8 days late and will take a test on Christmas morning. What a gift that would be!!! If you feel you need to double check that you are or are not pregos, then by all means, go to the doctor.
But 4 days is a little early. I don't think you numbers are high enough for a home preg test to detect. Good luck!!!!!

I know how you feel... I feel liek that evrytime my period has been late. Have you tried the ones that detect your period "5 days earlier" ? They're a little more sensitive. Good luck either way!

If both tests say no, and you are 4 days late, I think its very unlikely you are pregnant. Either way its too soon to go to the doctors, so just try to put it out of your mind.

Just call your doctor today and get a blood test. You will have the results (or your period) by next week

most dr dont want to see you until you are 6/7 weeks along because they can only confirm with blood work but it might not be a viable pregnancy. (until they can do an ultrasound) they will check at 6/7 weeks to see if there is a heartbeat and then they confirm for sure.

You're not likely to be seen before Christmas by a Dr. I think you will need to just wait and test again in a few days if you still don't have your period. Was there unusual stress in your month during the time you would normally ovulate? Even the most regular of us can be thrown off by stress or travel. I really don't think you have a choice but to give it a few more days.

It is more common to have a false positive than a false negative. So, I doubt you are pregnant. No reason to go to the doctor.
