Am I Pregnant? - Adamstown,PA

What is wrong with me?? Am I pregnant or is it just in my head?...It all started around Christmas when my period finally came after being 6 days late. I did not have it as long, but the flow was the same as my usual period. Before I got my period, I took 2 pregnancy tests and they were negative. Last week I was nauseous all day the one day, and then finally threw up 3 times in a row. Ever since then I am nauseous just about all day except when I eat something. I have also been extremely bloated for a few days. My belly looks really big. And tonight I have a little cramping. When my husband saw my belly today he said, "You have to be pregnant." My belly is normally pretty flat. I took another test and it was negative. Am I maybe feeling symptoms after only JUST becoming prego? Or is this all in my head. Oh, and we have been off the pill since the beginning of October. I am not constipated, so the bloating and cramping can't be that. Is this all in my head? Or what else could it be?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your responses. I never went to the doctor b/c I felt better like the day after I wrote the request. I took a pregnancy test today (the day my period was due) and it came back positive. :) So, I have a doctor appointment on Monday morning. Wish me luck! :)

Sounds like your pregnant to me. I worked with a girl that was 3 months pregnant and the store bought pregnancy tests still returned a negative result. Live a healthy lifestyle (as if you were pregnant) and get yourself to the doctor. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Hi M., I don't think you're pregnant, I think you had the stomach virus that's going around. My 2 year old had the bug last Tuesday, and then I got sick on Thursday and threw up 3 times. Friday I felt better, but since Saturday I have been bloated, nauseous, and my stomach is sticking out more than normal, all the things you're describing. I think it's just the after effects of the virus, because there is no way that I am pregnant because I've had my tubes tied and a uterine ablation. My sister also got the virus from us and she had the same thing for a few days afterwards.

I would go to the doctor to get a blood test to be sure. Can home pregnancies tests fail yes and I know this for a fact because it happened to me but doctors say that you have to be at least be 1 month along before you even begin to start feeling symptoms. Do you want to be pregnant? If you do it may be your subconscious making you feel that way. A person can bring on symptoms of a illness or pregnancy because they want it so bad. It is not intentional but it can happen. I learned this in my psychology courses. Either way I would go to the doctor to be sure. I was late on my period with my daughter and when I took the pee test the doctors give you it said I wasn't pregnant. A month later I did the same thing and I was then I was told I was 2.5 months pregnant. So it can happen but that is a statistical rarity. AT least that's what they told me. HOpe everything works out the way you want it to.

See a doctor. Could be any number of things, not the least of which could be the start of some sort of infection or inflammation. And if you are pregnant, then you'll need a doctor anyway. So see a doc.

I would wait another week and take a test again. I don't think your pregnant. I think maybe because you were late on your period and going off the pill your body just needs time to get regular. But again, I am not a doctor.

I had a similiar thing happen except I took a pregnancy test a few days earlier than my period was suppose to happen... the test came back positive but the line was very faint...when i went to the docs he confirmed it with the blood test... but then a few days later I had my period... what happened to me and the doc says it happens all the time was that many women have very early miscarriages and never detected... not harmful to you at all ... usually women wait till their periods are a week late.... anyway the feelings of being pregnant lasted for awhile and if I had not known before my period I would have taken the test like you and the test would have been negative as well..... that may have happened I didn't get sick but everyone is different when it comes to being prego or you may have the flu bug as well..Just make sure your doctor is well informed of the situation.
Good Luck in becoming pregnant!!!

First go to your doctor. They can do a blood test. There is something call PCOS which mimics the syptoms of pregnancy. Are other things happenning? Are you loosing a lot of hair, have you been struggling with weight loss, have you been retaining weight round your middle? All these can be symptoms of PCOS. Check with your doctor for sure!

Wow!! The same thing happened to me, really. I was nauseous on Christmas day and threw up twice and my period ended up 2 weeks late, just got it 2 days ago. I also only felt well with food in my stomach and took 2 pregnancy tests that were negative. I have a 16 month old and want another baby and have been off the nuvaring since October. It is very weird but interesting to know someone else is going through the same thing. I feel so big and bloated myself. I am hoping that it is the side effect of eating, stress and a little more alcohol over the holidays. I have no idea why we I feel this way nore any advice but sometimes knowing your not alone helps.

Don't speculate as to whether or not you are pregnant at this point. There is something medically going on. It could be pregnancy but since all the tests you have done so far came back negative, it is probably something else. The problem is it could be something really simple and not at all dangerous or it could be something more serious. So stop speculating and make an appointment with your PCP. They can take a look at you and run tests for pregnancy as well as other things it may be.

Remember you have a 15 month old little girl who is depending on you. So take care of yourself. Call your doctor soon.

Good luck.

Dear M., first, don't get desperate. I highly recommend a blood test. There is no confusion with blood. Much more safer than a pregnancy test. That happened to me too and finally the blood test was definitive. Anyway, you should test too with the gynecologist. Maybe can be other problem, don't get scared, but check it. Good luck, anyway!

Make an appointment with your doctor to have the HCG levels in your blood tested. That way you will know for sure. My feeling is that I doubt you'd feel or look pregnant this early, but get the blood work done to be 100% positive. Good luck!

Hi M., I'am a nurse and what you describe for symptoms suggests to me that you need to be seen by a Dr. You can be pregnant and still have your period. There are other reasons that could cause your bloating and your nausea could be caused by many different things. The fact that all the pregnancy test you have taken have been neg.and you still have cramps and bloating are warning signs. It could be something as easy as the flu or other illness or it could be a pregnancy with complications. Your daughter is 15 mos. old, Have you been pregnant since her birth? If so, did you have a miscarriage, and if you did, did you have a D&C? I'm praying for your good health. V. S

You need to go to your PCP and get them to check you out. It sounds to me like you are pregnant. Don't rely on those pregnancy tests that come back negative. I am a mother of three who never had a pregnancy test come out positive. Change of periods, swollen belly, nausea, (are your nipples sore?) are all pretty good indications of pregnancy.

It sounds like something to talk with your doctor about. They could run some tests, etc. that will tell you more than one of us could- at least over a computer, without actually seeing you and having your medical history around. Any of us who are in the medical field could guess, but sometimes, like this, you need tests, too. Get yourself seen.

Sounds like pregnancy to me! Go to your doctor and get a blood test to know for sure. Because if it turns out you're not pregnant, you should have yourself checked out in case it's something else that needs treatment.
PS - when I got pregnant with my daughter, my tests were negative even though I was having similar symptoms. It finally showed positive, and the line was super-faint.
