Almost 3 Month Old Won't Sleep in Crib During Day

My daughter is 11 weeks old and sleeps great at night in her crib. Up until a few weeks ago she took naps in her pack and play in the living room because she won't sleep in her crib during the day - never has. Over the last 3 weeks or so she won't even let me put her down for a nap anywhere unless I hold her. I have never sat there and held her so she's not spoiled that way but today I did because what happens is that she gets so over tired from waking up all the time when I put her down that she ends up being super crabby and whiny all afternoon and evening. When she falls asleep I hold her for a few minutes and then put her down in her crib or pack and play but she almostl instantly wakes up and fusses then gets really mad. This goes on for hours until she's almost unconsolable because she's over tired.
Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe this is just a phase? It's very frustrating because I'm stuck there for 3 hours today holding her just because I could not handle a fussy baby today and I caved.
Any help would be great.

What can I do next?

hello C., I have to say that my now son who is almost 6 months was the exact same way til I started to put him into his swing for naps during the day. It usually took me about 30-40 min of rocking him to make sure he didn't wake when i put him in his swing..lol....this too shall pass I think at that age they just want to be around mommy!! :-)

Hi C.
Have you tried laying her down awake but sleepy and see if she will fall asleep on her own. Good Luck this is a hard transition.

probably not what you want to hear, but my son did that more then a few times in the first 3 months. I held him. i figure he would grow soon and never want to be held i enjoyed while he needed it. one day i laid him down and he slept but only about an hour per nap twice a day. by 7 months he had worked it all out. I let the housework go and enjoyed my time with him. it only lasted a little while.

Do you have a good swing? If not I would recommend getting one. They are a lifesaver, baby gets the rest they need you get a less cranky baby. I have 5 kids and only 2 of them didn't use a swing, 1 b/c they were the wind up kind 12 yrs ago and 2 b/c she didn't like the one we had. My ds is 3 mo old and will probably use the swing until he is too big
