I didn't have bad allergies until 2 years ago. I was at my doctor a few months ago for a sinus infection and she asked my how my allergies were. When I told her they were bad at certain times of the year, she convinced me to try allegra-D, a prescription allergy medication. I have been taking it since, and I can't tell you the difference it has made. I am so happy and alert and my allergies are almost non existent. The nice thing about a prescription is it is cheaper for me than buying over-the-counter. So, I would encourage you to talk to your doctor and see if a prescription allergy medication is right for you.

N.,
I have heard good things about the Neti Pot. I go to the chiropractor for my allergies, but sometime take advil cold and sinus medicine and it works the best. Good luck!

Try raw, local honey (not heat-treated or filtered). You can usually find it at local farmers' markets. My husband who has HORRIBLE allergies now only takes honey and no medicine (plus he uses a neti pot at times - like after he does yardwork or has been outside a lot). He takes a spoonful whenever he starts to feel stuffed up. Some honey has worked better than others for him so don't give up after just one try. The really great honey that he buys takes less than 10 minutes to completely clear him up. He has done this for years now and his allergies aren't as bad as they used to be because his body has built a tolerance. It is important that you find local honey too, because the bees need to have taken the pollen from plants that affect you. Good Luck!!

First you should find out what is triggering your allergies. Keeping away from particular triggers may be all you need-rather than medicine. My son and I have allergies and two of my sons have asthma, one with allergies/asthma. I had to completely discard all carpeting throughout my home, use blinds without curtains and avoid vacuuming. Having your husband dust will be a great help as well. This wold stir up all dust and dander and make my allergies worse. I have found being around smoke-animals, especially cats and long haired dogs really set off my allergies. I had to get rid of all stuffed animals for my children and avoid any perfumed sprays for myself. Another thing that helps is to be careful when opening windows during certain times of the year--this may help, it did for us. Godd luck and take care!!

Hi N.,
I can relate, just when you think you know your own body it changes! I never had allergies until my mid twenties, and was challenged to start the learing process of how to deal with them in a way that strengthend my whole body and immune system--not just masking the problem with med's--which has a whole bunch of fun side affects to deal with, too.

Thinking about your health from a holistic view is about considering many areas that are affecting your health and dealing with each of them--so it's usually not just do "one" thing and all will be well. If you would like to learn about natural approaches to dealing with your allergies contact me and I can forward some info. that has helped me and many, many others--there is help!

Also, someone mentioned the Nettie Pot--I agree to get it, if you have seasonal allergies most of the pollen gets stuck in your nose hairs, but some camps out in your sinus passages, this washes the pollen away. It may not end your problem completely, but it is one of the things that will help.

Spring is a beautiful time of year, you can enjoy it, I do now:)~

See an allergist. They can test you to see exactly what you are allergic to and prescribe the appropriate medication. I take AllegraD and Singulair for my allergies as does my husband. Our oldest daughter takes Claritin and Pulmicort (inhaled) for her allergies and asthma.

We use Counteract Allergy by Melaleuca. It is cheaper than Claritan [if you are a preferred customer 9.99 for 30 tablets; 17.99 for 2 boxes] and comes with a 100% money back guarantee. My neighbor and my 13 year old cousin both swear it is the best product they've ever used for their allergies. My husband takes one just before cutting the grass and he loves it. We've been PCs with Melaleuca for almost 4 years. They're products are amazing.

Let me know if you'd like shop online with Melaleuca also.
