Allen to Arlington?

Hey, Does anyone make the commute from Allen (or the vicinity) to Arlington (or the vicinity) in the mornings? I will be teaching at UTA this fall. Classes start at 10 for me. So I need to figure out if I want to have office hours before or after classes. I'd rather have them before to get it over with and prep for class. But it already takes an hour to get there WITHOUT rush hour. Anyone make this commute around 7:30 or 8 am? If so, how long does it take you to get to Arlington?

Added: Yep! When I get there in an hour without traffic, I take tollways (GB Tollway to 161 to 30). NO desire to take 635 at that time of the morning. I am coming off of Bethany at the 75 and then taking the GB.

What can I do next?

I commute from McKinney to Arlington about 3 times a week. I used to take the toll roads until my husband told me I was racking up $40/week in tolls, yikes!! Now I take 75 to 635, and yes the construction on 635 is a bummer. Fortunately for me I need to be at work at 630 am, so traffic isn't terrible yet. Coming home it's a little heavier, but still seems to take the same amount of time as when I take the toll roads. A little more traffic was worth the savings in tolls :)

I live around the edge of Plano/Allen and briefly taught at a small college in Arlington for a 10am class. I took the GB tollway and it was a freakin' nightmare, although that was before it was finished, so I think I took the GB to 635 south. If there was a wreck, it put me way behind. I now make the commute in the opposite direction to teach in Mesquite, and traffic is better at 7:30 than 8 or 8:30. I guess everyone wants to sleep as late as possible. I'd have the office hours before class, so that if you get stuck in a bad traffic jam due to an accident, you're not stressed about making it late to class--better to be late to office hrs, if anything. Do you have to decide before the 1st day? We always have a week to put up our office hours, so maybe you could experiment with it for a few days first. What do you teach? My area is philosophy.

Mornings are hectic enough without having someone sitting in your office waiting for you. I would leave the same time and give yourself that time as a cushion. I agree on the use of 161. It's luxurious.

I don't make that commute but we went to the outlets off stacy rd in arlington sunday and it seemed like it took forver! There was no traffic either. I would go 75 to 161 to 30. 161 is 70 miles an hr. Love that! I would give myself at least a hr and a half. Good luck mama!

I don't know exactly where you are going. My hubby is often heading to DFW or Love Field from Allen/Plano. Our main artery is 75/Bethany.

Typically we try to be on the road by 6 if flying, can be later if not flying.

We steer away from 635 and the new construction. We prefer to stay on the tollways to make connections.

The time you mentioned is prime time in Dallas. I can't say how long to your destination because it depends on the traffic which can be horrid.

In any case, we take tollways. From Allen, we routinely make a drive to Love Field or DFW airport within 45 minutes.
