All the Sudden 11 Month Old Won't Sleep!

My 11 month old daughter all of the sudden will not just lie down and go to sleep. She has always been a pleasure to put to sleep. Starting Monday night she cried and cried till about 11:30, her usual bed time is 9 pm. I will only let her cry for 10 minutes at a time. I gave her some IB profun tonight to see if maybe her teeth are bothering her when she lays down. It did seem to work but I don't want to keep giving her meds to make her sleep, but I don't want her to be in pain either. Has anyone else had this problem with their child at the same age?

What can I do next?

My son is turning one this week. He started having trouble sleeping also and is getting two of his molars at one time. I couldn't really tell until I stuck my finger in there and felt
around and I could feel the hard bumps. You may have to dig around and see :) I have to give him Motrin almost nightly or he wakes up but it usually lasts only about a week or two and then once they cut through initially, no more drugs.
Best of Luck,
Jen

Have you taken the baby to the Dr. lately she could have an ear infection but lets just hope its the teeth if so its ok to go between tylenol and motrin it wont hurt her. Trust me i have 4 healthy children and tylenol and motrin has been a big help for when they are not feeling well.

Hi C.,

If it's not physical pain... Maybe she's just overwhelmed by all the new stuff she's doing during the day. My daughter is the same age and seems to have a hard time settling esp. when she's at a new milestone or two. We just rock her to sleep and then settle her into bed... but sometimes it takes getting over a hump of 10-20 minutes of her wiggling & "telling us" about all her daytime stresses. ;) After that it's settle-down time.

I think she may be teething and that is what makes her uncomfortable and keeps her up. call the doctor and ask.

I agree - definitely sounds like either teething or an ear infection.

You may want to take her to the pediatrician to have her ears checked. What you are describing sounds like it could possibly be an ear infection. Good luck to you and your baby.

Two things, one she might be getting her 1 yr molers. When my daughter got those (12mths) I was up every night for a week with her screaming. She would only sleep for 10 minute stretchs, no lie. Second, it could be an ear infection. My daughter would normally fall asleep but wake up periodically throughout the night crying which is how I could tell everytime that she had an infection. Because your daughter doesn't fall asleep first I would say it probably is something else. It could be that she is going through separation anxiety. My daughter went through that around 1 1/2 yrs old. It is really hard with children so young because they can't tell what is wrong. Good luck!
