Albrights Syndrom

I actually work at St. Christopher's in their Child Life Department (the ones that run the playroom and such). I don't work full time anymore since having children. I think it is a decent hospital and there are good doctors there. My daughter (2 months old) is being seen by Dr. Safier in the orthopedic dept. at the moment for developmental hip displaysia. I never worked with him when I was there full time so he didn't know I was an employee and I have had a good experience with him. I really like the other three docs, too, from my experiences working with them. They seem very knowledgeable and to have good bedside manners. Sorry, I am not familiar with your son's condition, so I am not sure what experience those docs have with that. FYI, I used to work in the day surgery dept so let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in any other way.

My name is M. and I am the mother of a 10& 2 1/2 yr olds. I live about 30-40 min from Philly. My 2 yr old was born with severe enemia (Hereditary Ellyptisytosis) and I have been taking him to CHOP since he was a newborn. He has also been admitted for a blood transfussion there when he was 4 months old as well. I was treated very kindly and the doctors always let me know what was going on. I stayed in the room with him at the time and they provided all the milk and pampers free, as well as juice and snacks for the family. I personally deal with the Hematology/Oncology Department, but all the doctors are so professional and nice.I actually took Joshua today for his 5 month check up, and as usual I was highly satisfied. I do not have experience with Albrights Syndrome, but I do have great experience with CHOP with their Orthopaedic department. They are the best of the best and I would suggest you take your son their for a consult. I chose CHOP for my daughter (who has a condition that she will out grow) because even the pediatrician didn't know what she had and I had a very strong feeling that I knew what it was and CHOP confirmed my suspicion as well as my family's guess as to what was going on. Our family (sister and nephew) had a very bad experience with St. Christopher's hospital, but not for an ortho problem and it turned out that CHOP saved my nephews life - I'm not joking about saving his life. He was on the brink of death. I don't want to scare you, but by the time he was transfered to CHOP, he was on "death's door" and they were able to treat him (he was in the hospital for a month) and then at home for about a month before he was recovered enough to return to school).

My suggestion again is to go to CHOP - I know it's hard to get an appointment.

I had to take my daughter to St. Christopher's Orthopedics last month. She broke her arm at the elbow and the emergency room at Bryn Mawr Hospital wouldn't put a cast on it until she saw an orthopedic. I also had wanted to go to CHOP because I had been to orthopedics there with another daughter, but they were unable to fit me in and she had to see someone within 24 hours.
I was extremely impressed with all the doctors at St. Christopher's. She had to go back three times over the course of three weeks and we saw a different doctor each time- but the same resident was there each time (this only happened because of my schedule and my time restraints). All of them were professional and kind. They all seemed to have the same opinion about my daughter's arm which reassured me. She is three years old and they all had a great rapport with her.
I realize that my daughter's broken arm was different than what you are dealing with, but I wanted to let you know that St. Christopher's is a great hospital with a fabulous reputation.

My daughter has had to see an orthopedist for a minor issue. However, I was very impressed with the doctor. His name is Dr. Cornwall (Roger, I think). We see him at the CHOP satellite office in Chalfont, but I think he also works out of CHOP in Philly. Good luck.

I have no experience with Albrights Syndrome or the orthopedics department at St. Christopher's. My son has had surgery at St. Christopher's and the doctors, nurses and other staff exceeded our care expectations. My son is also being seen by the metabolic doctor's there and they also are wonderful.

I am sure you were referred there because they have doctor's that can help your son. St. Christopher's is a very good hospital. Good Luck, M. Michvech

I am sorry you have to go thru this with your son. It isn't easy. I have delt with Childrens hospital and have never had any problems. It wasn't with the ortho dept though. Just remember if you don;t like something, question it. Get another opinion. Do what you have to until you get an answer you like or makes sense. You are your childs advocate. If you don't speak up, no one will. Good luck.
