Ahhh!!! My Hubby's B-day and I Am at a Loss!

My husband is a pretty easy going guy that really doesn't have a hobby, works to exhaustion and if he wants something will usually just buy it. Which leaves me at a loss at birthday time. I usually get him the usual socks, undies, jeans, shirts, but I always manage to add something fun. This year it has been difficult thinking of something. I even spent hours online trying to find a unique gift...my hubby's very picky, no luck. I usually do something nice for him; surprise him with dinner with friends, event tickets, but nothing has come to mind this year (not to mention I am 9 months prego with two toddlers at toe and the last thing I am thinking of is a mall trip). Mind you, his birthday is Monday! Yes, I am waiting until the last minute to say the least! Any ideas??

What can I do next?

I like the sitter and night out idea. If you want to have something to open, try a handheld Sudoku game (I got one at JCPenney). I would ask a friend to go pick it up for you so you don't have to get out. My husband didn't know what Sudoku is, but now he is hooked. He has it sitting next to the toilet. He could also play it while you are in hospital (unless he has other 2 in his care).

Hi T.! How about an overnight getaway at a bed and breakfast for after the new baby is born and you are healed?? There are lots in Michigan you can go to. Hope this helps, L. S.

If you are handy with a computer, you could create "coupons" for "services" throughout the year and give it to him. IE: breakfast in bed, day without showering, 1 hour of uninterupted TV time. That kind of thing. Use your imagination! I'd love that kind of gift myself!

I have a hard time shopping for my father. Your husband sounds very similar to him. On his last birthday, I bought him an E-Bay gift certificate. He thought it was the greatest thing ever.

I agree with the suggestion for a massage. My husband always wanted one but was a little nervous the first time, now he gets one as often as possible - he is a 6'4" mechanic and definitely doesn't think that massages are just for women and metrosexuals. It will be a great way for your husband to relax and while you are at it you should schedule yourself for a prenatal massage - it helps!

Good luck.

Here is what I have done for my hubby in the past:
ediable gifts (things he usually doesn't get at home): different flavored coffees, sausage stick, specialized beers; i like to shop at deruze (in grandville) for all of this.

I have also done, netflix prepaid for 6 months, gift card to amazon or e-bay, something he can use at work, like a travel mouse for the computer. I've also done tools; one year I gave him a new shower head.

I always try to make he favorite meal on his birthday and a dessert of his choice. We are on a tight budget so birthdays are usually small gifts.

Of course it never fails to have the kids make him something special and to even call him at work during the middle of the day and sing happy birthday!

SOunds like you've got a lot going on! How about getting a sitter and just going to dinner...the two of you. You won't be getting any rest or alone time for awhile once the baby arrives.

I am always at a loss too when it comes to gifts for my b/f.For his birthday I like making him a cake and giving him a nice card.He works alot and doesnt have hobbies himself. Its hard to even get out for dinner. So I let him pick what he wants me to make him for dinner. He does play video games once in awhile so a game is usually what I can get. Why are men so hard to shop for? LOL Check craft stores and you can find something to get the kids involved with too.A handmade gift is always special to daddy.

Good Luck!

My anniversary is today (we have been married for seven years...). I did not purchase a card or gift as money is very tight. (I could have given a massage, but I do this all the time as that is my line of work and I wanted to enjoy it. Also, if you plan to do this I highly recommend that you know he does not mind the touch of another person. Sometimes guys do not care for it, but many enjoy relaxing.)

What I did: I wrote a poem and put a picture of my hubby on it. My husband loved it and I feel it means more as it came from my heart and it was 'made' with love.

If you are creative enough, you can do this and it only takes a little time and thought. Or, just write a 'letter of love' and I am sure he will treasure it over all things as it came from your heart and soul...

Good Luck!

Does he have a winter coat? Boots? I bought my bf a dickies coat and it's very warm. It's at Dickies.com Maybe there's a movie you could buy him. Alot of the popular ones are on dvd now. Iron Man, Hulk, Indiana Jones. You could have someone watch your kids and order in food. Pretty much everywhere offers curbside pickup now. You could make it romantic if you want also. Or you and the kids could decorate the house and bake a cake and surprise him when he walks in. My bf loves that.

My first suggestion was going to be buy him lingerie (for you to wear of course), but the I read that you're nine months pregnant. I'm sure that's the last thing on your mind...lol

You mention that he works a lot. I don't know what he does, but one year I bought my husband a gift certificate to Red Wings Shoes. Their boots are pretty expensive, but they're the best and they have a warranty on them. You can go back and get them fixed up and new laces. This is the longest my husband has had a pair of boots now, and he loves them.

I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but my husband is the same way and I managed to find him a gift he absolutely loves. I, too was 9 months pregnant when his birthday came along, so I started looking for things online. If your husband is into electronics, I found a mini pc by EEE. It is basically a mini computer with a 7in screen. It is so small that it fits in the glove box of the car. It's about $300. Look them up and I hope it works for you.

Dear T. K.,

What about an IOU for when the baby is about six months old and you are not as exhausted? You could perform some service for him that he hates to do and needs to be done on a regular basis; you just ask him to wait until what period of time that you are feeling nearly back to normal.

Or how about baking his favorite goodie (sweet baked good or homemade bread from scratch something you know he likes) and make two batches. One batch he eats now for his birthday gift and the second one gets frozen individually in sandwich baggies. He can take out as little or as many as he gets a taste for later.

Homemade in almost always better than anything you can buy from some bakery. And the time it takes you to prepare and bake it should mean something to your husband. He knows how busy you must be these days with a big belly and having to take care of two energetic little ones.

Also you can slip little notes (stating how much you love him and the things you like the best about him) into hiding places so that he doesn't find them all at once. When he feels down he can retrieve them and read them over and over and over.

I like trying to do things romantic for my husband something inexpensive to do is I got construction paper cut out like 50 hearts and on each one I put something sweet then taped them all to his wall in his room mixed in the middle was one heart that said look under the pillow then I made a scavenger hunt with like 15 other hearts and some stops there was a suprise (chocolate) then at the end was a bigger gift but he had more fun running around the looking for stuff it was like he was a little kid!!!
