After Baby Shoes Size

Mamas and papas

It's nearly two months after ds#2 was born. I'll be back to work in April and with that in mind I'm taking a hard look at my wardrobe including shoes. Nothing seems to fit. I'm going to buy new shoes. Question is, would you hold onto the existing ones with hopes that things might fit again? If so, for how long?

Thanks
F. B.

My feet grew 1/2 size with each baby. They have not gone back to the original size. They don't actually grow, but the arches fall.

Here's another angle. I've never been pregnant nor gained a lot of weight. I wore size 7 1/2 in my 20's. I wear a size 9 now. Every few years the change in size is obvious.

A hormone gets released when we're pregnant that causes our cartilage to loosen. We have LOTS of it in our feet between all the little bones. Causes our feet to grow, up to 1/2 size. It doesn't go back, sadly.

Nope - donate the old shoes, they're never going to fit again. I was a size 9 before my first pregnancy, then a 9.5 after my first and a 10 after my second. Luckily my shoe size didn't go up any more with my 3rd and 4th pregnancies! I was going through my closet recently and found 3 pairs of the smaller shoes stashed way up on a corner shelf. They're so old now that they're ready for the trash bin - wish I had passed them on when they were still in style so that someone else could have made use of them!

I developed a bunion partly from how I walk but also because I was shoving my feet into my pre-pregnancy sized shoes. I went up a half size.

After I had our son - my shoe size had increased by 2 sizes - from 7 1/2 to 9 1/2.
My feet never went back to my pre-pregnancy size.
I got rid of all my old shoes and got new shoes that fit my new size.

Just get new shoes. Don't try to "stuff" your feet into the old ones either. If your feet hurt the rest of your body hurts.

When I had my daughter I went from a B to a C and never went back. I did not get longer feet just a bit wider - enough to make everything uncomfortable. It also made it harder to find "cute" shoes. But be comfortable over fashion when you do get them.

Good luck with your return to work next month. Take it easy and know that all will fall into place but it might take a bit longer to get a new routine with the boys and home.

I went up a size. I kept trying to wear my old size and even bought new shoes in that size. It finally occurred to me after I developed a corn, that they were too small! Keep your favorites, just in case, but I'd make sure you are wearing the correct size now. Get yourself sized if you aren't sure or are between sizes.

my feet went up a full size over the course of having kids.

I did save some favorite shoes, and post menopause, was actually able to comfortably wear some of my smaller sizes.

Then, I broke my big toe on my right foot. Had to get ALL NEW shoes!

Still had held out some hope. But 2 years post broken toe, I donated them.

Now left foot is half size smaller than right.

I cannot win. But keep putting one foot in front of the other! LOL

Best!

I went up a 1/2 shoe size with each kid . . . I would hold on to your favorite "old" pair, but plan on a new shoe wardrobe.

I wore shoes for many years. I loved my shoes. Yes, I admit it, my hubby says I'm his little Imelda Marcos. One time when we were going to move I got rid of over a hundred pair of shoes...YIKES! I really did. I gave them all away to anyone who wanted them.

I know some ladies who grow a half size each baby. If your shoes are wearable but just tight then I'd keep them if you love them. Wear them to events you will be sitting 90% of the time or somewhere you'll be able to take them off.

I have some shoes that I buy specifically because I'm going to be standing in them a lot. Then I have to spikes and slightly small ones that I only wear when I'm going to walk in then sit.

I think you should have an idea if you will ever wear them again if they fit like this forever. You might consider if they'll stretch any with wearing. I have one leg and foot that swells up. That shoe has eventually given in and is now bigger. On the days I put one of those pairs on the shoe will flop around on that food if I'm not swollen.

In my economy of thinking,
New baby = New wardrobe

You don't have to break the bank when buying the new things you need. If everything matches with everything else you can mix and match everything and look your very best.

New shoes will be important too for finishing off your look. Your feet might not go back and in the between time you will need something comfortable and fashionable. When you look good you feel good too.
