Affordable Family Cruise

I'm rethinking the Disney thing. What about a Cruise? Has anyone taken a cruise out of Galveston? Or anywhere onthe Gulf Coast? We have family in Galveston and have been to the beach a few times. It would great to leave out of Louisiana too, we could still stop in New Orleans. I would love to take a little 3 day cruise with the kids. Any advice or reviews of certain cruiselines or destinations?

What can I do next?

I am doing research now because we are doing a cruise for our Christmas gift in 2012 - so excited!

But I have found tons of 3- day cruises and the AVERAGE price is around $300 a person.

I'm looking on Carnival.com because I've heard that is best for families and kids.

Good luck and have fun!!!

The only cruise I've been on has been Disney - and they are more expensive than other cruise lines, but it was absolutely phenomenal and so worth it, IMO. Everyone had a fantastic time, including us adults, our 3 year old, and hubby's 2 older teen sons (16 and 17), and got our "Disney fix". The service was top notch. They do sail out of Cape Canaveral in Florida and have 3-night, 4-night, and 7-night Caribbean cruises (the 3 and 4 night ones just go to the Bahamas, while the 7 night ones are either western Caribbean or eastern. All stop at least once at Castaway Cay, their own little private island in the Bahamas). We did a 3-night one last year and wished it had been longer. Can't wait to go again. Maybe not what you have in mind for now, but definitely something to think about for the future.

If you want affordable and nice-stick with Carnival. I took my boys two years back and they loved it (8 and 9 at the time). Carnival is the most reasonable and also has a very nice children's program. I wished I lived closer to a port.
The food is included in the price and only drinks (they do have lemonade, tea and other things free of charge all the time as well as soft serve ice cream) and excursions are extra or you could just stay on board when the ship is in port and enjoy it when the majority of people are out and about. I love cruises!
My advice would be to avoid a Disney cruise-way over priced although I am sure they are very nice-just not practical if you want to go on a budget.

We're about to go on a Royal Carribbean cruise- their newer ships have been built to rival Disney (without the characters or huge price tag). Check out cruisecritic.com and cruisecompete.com....
