Advise About Tummy Tuck.

I used Dr. Stagnone back in 1999 when I had lipoosuction and he was wonderful. I barely had a scar and now it's completely gone. I also just went back a few months ago to have a consultation for a breast lift and the staff was just as wonderful as ever. I was also considering lipo b/c I had just had a baby but he told me that lipo would not be the right procedure and that a tummy tuck would be the right choice. I used Dr. Stagnone in 2005 for a breast aug. I would HIGHLY recommend him and his staff. They were VERY insightful and spent hours with me one on one. No question was too small and they had thousands of pictures of before and after to give you help understanding the procedures. VERY professional!! I have had the procedure done after 2 c-sections. I did work out and lost all my baby weight but the pudge would never go away. I do recommend getting to the size you want to be before the surgery that way after surgery you look and feel great and then you don't have to worry about loosing more weight after surgery. It did take about 3 weeks to feel back to normal. The first 3 to 4 days is the roughest. I thought I had 2 c-sections and could handle anything...this is different. They sew your muscles up to look like a six-pack again and it is very uncomfortable. It was about a week that I walked hunched over and that is normal because they are pulling your skin so tight. I am very happy with the results of how I look in clothes. The scar is big and is long but you can cover it with a bikini. It is a scarey looking scar but it does fade over time. Also just a quick note you will have two tubes coming out of your abdomen that you will have to empty. They stay in for about a week too.

I haven't had it done but a coworker who was happy with her surgery and looked great in her clothes showed me her scar. I had a hard time not letting my chin hit the floor. It looked liked someone tried to cut her in half. This may not be the norm but I would ask the doctor how big the scar will be. I don't mean to scare you, but figure you need to know that it may be a big scar.

I have not had any work done but I wanted to respond to your comment on how your Aunt's opinion, being vain and unnecessary surgery.

This is your body, and if you can afford a tummy tuck and if that makes YOU feel better about yourself.....who cares what other people think. I see it as something positive that you are doing for yourself which in turn if you are happier about yourself...you are a better mom, wife, partner.

I say who cares what other people think. If that is what will make you feel better about yourself, then go for it. The only suggestion that I have is to make sure you spend a lot of time researching your surgeon. Interview them like you are looking for a job :) Good luck!!

I'm not familiar with that doctor, but I have had the procedure. I agree with everyone who has posted here. Yes, it is a very rough recovery at first, and leaves a big scar. And I definitely agree you should be at or close to your ideal weight before doing it for the best results.

I'm not 100% satisfied with how mine turned out, but even so am VERY glad I did it and would do it again in a heartbeat. I used to have so much trouble finding clothes that fit right because I was tiny everywhere else but had this great big pooch on my belly and it made me very self-conscious. I worked out like a crazy person and there was no way it was going to go away without surgery.

As far as being vain...how is that any more vain than having Lasik, bleaching your hair, or getting your teeth whitened or straightened? People spend money on all kinds of things that aren't "necessary" -- if this makes you feel good, then go for it! I understand this isn't everyone's priority, but I was much happier spending the money on this than on a projection TV or a boat or something.

I would suggest getting a few consults with a few different doctors and hear what they all have to say before deciding on one.

You have a right to feel good about yourself. Do what you need to do, as for the others, unless you are asking them for the money, it is none of their concern. Good luck!
