Any advice on switching my boys over to milk in sippy cups? We've been given the all clear for milk, which they like, but they don't like the sippy cups. If I try to offer with a sippy cup lid, they immediately turn from the cup. They will only drink from a bottle or from the cup without a lid on, which is a total mess and I'm not sure how much they are actually drinking and how much is spilling out. Should I try different sippy cups? Any ideas or advice would be appreciated!
Thanks for the advice! My husband picked up a couple of the Nuby sippy cups on the way home from work, and so far so good! Last night went much easier than earlier that day. They seem to really take to these cups and lids instead of the Avent ones we had tried. Thanks again for the ideas!
I would definatly try different cups my 19 month old hated the sippy cup so I tried the nuk version it has the thick kind of silicone spout so it is almost like a bottle and it is pretty much spill proof. What helps is if the cup doesn't have a stopper it is easier to get the drink out until they get the hang of it. A couple of weeks of that and then you will be able to move onto the normal ones with hard spouts and stoppers. Good luck!
I started putting juice in a sippy cup for my son. He'd do anything to drink juice since it was a special treat. Once I knew he could easily drink from the cup for something he wanted, I went cold turkey making him drink everything from the cup. It was a rough couple of days, but he learned we weren't going back and that was that. I tried a couple of different types, but didn't go overboard trying a bunch. We settled on Playtex cups.
Try the sippy cup from Nuby. The "lid" is rather squishy and more like a nipple than other sippy cups that I have found.
Yes, try different cups with different type spouts. I think Avent makes one that helps to transition from bottle to cup. It took my daughter several different cups before we found one she liked. I have heard of some moms even using the cups with straws. They are not leak proof, but better than no lid. Both of my daughters learned how to drink from a straw when they were 1. Good luck.
I also had a hard time getting my son to drink milk from a sippy. Starting at 6 mo., I tried giving him juice/water in a sippy, but he didn't really like them. I tried pretty much every kind of sippy cup out there before finding one he would drink out of. After that, he did fine with juice, but still refused milk. He's 19 mo. old now, and still won't drink as much milk as he did with the bottle, but I just make sure he has other forms of dairy throughout the day, like yogurt and cheese. Several months ago, I just replaced one bottle a day with the cup, and so on, until there was no more bottle. It's tough, b/c you want to make sure he gets enough nutrition, but don't want him stuck on a bottle. Just be patient and he'll soon get it!
