Advice on My Daughter/teeth Grinding

Yes, my five year old daughter grinds her teeth through the night. It's sooo annoying to know that there's nothing I can do about it. It has gotten quite bad, she has literally shifted the bottom row of her teeth to where there is a gap big enough for a tooth to fit. I've heard of teeth guards that can be purchased. Does anyone have any advice on where those can be purchased? Or do I need to hava her fitted for one at the dentist? Additionally, does anyone know the cause/s of teeth grinding?

What can I do next?

As another dental hygienist, I agree with Tara. Teeth grinding, although very annoying, is considered "normal" in children who still have their baby teeth. Nobody knows exactly why they do it (I'd never heard of it being linked to too much yeast in the diet, before), but it doesn't mean that they will continue once they get their permanent teeth. I've seen kids who have ground their baby teeth down to little nubbins! Dentists don't normally make bite guards for young children--both because they usually grow out of the grinding habbit and because their teeth are moving and changing so much at this age. If she continues to grind after she gets all her permanent teeth, then a bite guard would be a good idea--you could ask your dentist to make one that fits right--but that's still years away! In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to have her checked out by a dentist, anyway, if you're really concerned.

Teeth Grinding is a symptom of a deep sleeper. Contact your dentist first to see what they recommend in regards to teeth guards. My 7 year grinds her teeth and her dentist recommends no guards. Talk to her doctor about her deep sleeping and see what they recommend. Good luck!

Teeth grinding in young children is normal. As for the shifting of the teeth, she is at the age when she will start getting loose teeth and the lower front ones are the first to go. If you are that concerned talk to your dentist and have him/her take a look. Good luck

Teeth grinding is diet centered. Too much candida(yeast) in the system causes it.
