Advice on Hair Thinning

I recently started noticing that my hair is falling out alot! After I shower and comb my hair I see so much falling I started getting scared. I have never had thick hair, but when I was young (before kids) I had a lot of curly hair, which now seem to be disappearing. If I pull my hair back in a ponytail I can see my scalp on the side of my head. I am concerned and will be making an appointment with my dr. this week, but I wanted to know if anyone out there has had this problem and knows of some natural remedies.

What can I do next?

Hi
Get your thyroid checked when you see the doctor. Hair loss is common after baby, but should stop after the first year
Good luck

Massage your scalp daily. If it is tight, it constricts blood flow to the folicles and the hair falls out.

There is a haircare line called Nioxin that you can get in most beauty supply shops that works wonderfully. It was developed for patients undergoing chemotherapy but it works for everyone. Cost is all relative to what you are used to paying and what you have available but . . . it's not cheap but it is a true value, considering the fact that it does work and a bottle of shampoo or conditioner (even the ones that come in the boxed sets) will last you up to a year because all you need is a dime-sized amount to get the results you need with each shower. The last time I used it (last year), I didn't tell my hairstylist that I was using it and as she was highlighting my hair, she kept on commenting on the amount of babyhair that was coming in. That should give you an idea about how good this stuff is.

Lily,
As others have responded, do get your thyroid checked. You can also take Biotin. It is a vitamin supplement for hair, nails and skin. I started taking it after my chemo treatments and my hair and skin and nails improved immensely.
Hope all works out for you.

Yes, get your thyroid checked. Also, are you on any medications that have hair loss as a side-effect? The birth control pill made my hair do exactly what yours is doing.

I've noticed that I have been losing alot of hair too. If you get your hair colored or had extensions, this could be a reason your hair is thinning. After I had my extensions taken out my hair suffered some major breakage and thinning and I'm sure the coloring didn't help. I started taking prenatal vitamins and even thought about taking some ro-gain for women. Let us know what your doctor says!

L.,
I'm going thru the same thing right now! My doc checked my thyroid, which was fine, then did a full blood panel. Turns out I am anemic, low iron. I'm now on iron and hoping that it will help. Also, any long-term medication can cause hair loss. I was on a maintenance drug, which I also stopped taking, too. Good luck!!
