Hi everyone-
I am 18 weeks pregnant with my first child and wanted advice on how to go about finding our child's pediatrician. I have no idea where to start. We live in Springfield, MO and have St. Johns ins. If anyone loves thier child's doctor please let me know. I believe the best way to find out about things like this is word if mouth! Thanks for any advice!

We use Dr Yvonne Bussman. She came highly recommended to us, and we love her. She is very knowledgeable and wonderful with my son. She is at Smith Glen. Good luck!

I would NOT choose Dr. Fusselman. I just switched from him. Several reasons...he is always in a hurry, so if you like to ask questions or expect a thorough check up or education on any topic, he's not your guy. He is also going to 2.5 days in Sept. so he will be difficult to get into. I switched to Dr. Moore at Smith Glynn. Same office, but a female. Many doctors are not accepting patients right now. Some request that the baby be born before they will sign him/her up. That's what I found out when I had my baby 12 weeks ago. Good luck!

Dear A., we just went through something similar. I had been with Cox since I had my first son, who just turned 6. It was devastating to find out that our insurance would be changing to St. John's. But I received several referrals in Springfield and Nixa. I don't know where you live in Springfield. We are in Nixa and we are now seeing Dr. Temofeew at the St. John's Clinic on HWY 14. The office is clean, each room has a special theme, the ladies in the office are super sweet, and we are really happy. I have heard the other 2 female doctors in the office are wonderful as well. They are never crazy busy, and always get us in super fast. Not to mention they have a toy area in the waiting room as well as in the individual room where the doctor sees you. For your convenience there is a pharmacy on site with a drive thru window. Usually by the time I drop off the prescription and load the kids up in the car, the prescription is ready at the drive thru. The office number is ###-###-####. I also heard that the offices of Dr. Greismer and of Dr. Steele in Springfield are good as well. I had several referrals to both of them. Good luck in your search, I remember how intimidating it was finding a pediatrician for my first, it doesn't get any easier and we are on baby number 3!!! Ask your OBGYN if they have any suggestions as well, they may be able to shoot you in the right direction!

Robert Steele!!! He is great! I have been able to talk to him personally several times when I have had a problem and he called instead of having the nurse. He was also rated as one of the best pediatricians by 417 magazine!!

A great family doctor - who is great with children and with adults - is Dr. Kyle Smith at Healthtracks. We have used him for years for our 13 year old. We didn't want just a Pediatrician and then have to have another doctor for us and when our son got older. Having one doctor for the entire family has been a great benefit to our family.

When we had St John's insurance we all liked Dr Burson. He was over off Fremont near the hospital. It was nice that a dr actually came in and talked with the child before speaking to the parent. He always listened to our concerns and addressed each one. When we were out in public and would run into him, he kneew who we were. Not sure if he is still there, but we felt he was awesome.
