Advice on Dentist

I was just wondering what other moms think about when a child should see a dentist for the first time. I have a two year old boy and his teeth are fine. They all came in straight and there are no problems that I know of, but I have heard several different things about when they should have their first visit. I am definitely going to take him to a pediatric dentist, but I don't know if I need to look into doing that sooner or a little later. My sister-in-law told me that her older daughter had her first visit to the ped. dentist at 18 months. I think that is pretty young, but I don't know. Any advice would be great.

What can I do next?

I've talked personally with pediatricians and pediatric dentists about this and the recommended age is 3, unless you think there are issues.
My boys are just a little over three and probably won't go till they are 3 1/2 because that's when we'll finally have dental insurance.

I used to think age three and that is what some dentists say but my son, who went at the age of two had issues but I didn't know it and the dentist said I should have brought him in a year earlier. So when #2 came along I took her in with his appt at one year and he looked at her teeth and said they were fine. I personally would recommend erring on the side of caution on this one as it would have saved my son several dental procedures. I'd take your little one in as soon as he has more than 4 teeth personally, it won't hurt anything!
Best to you,
L.

My dentist told me 3 yrs old is the typical 'first trip to the dentist' age.

My son just turned three at the beginning of the month, his teeth look great and we definately want to keep it that way. We go to our first appointment tomorrow. I have seen alot of different timeframes when it is recommended, but mostly between the ages of 3-4yrs old.
