Advice on Car Seats!!! - Marlborough,MA

Most car seats that are front/rear facing are 5lbs on up. There shouldn't be a problem with her weight if you have on of these. My sons were both too heavy way too early and we moved them into a front/rear facing car seat and they are just fine. If she's too big for the seat then move her. If she’s not comfortable move her. Do you like being cramped in small seats? If you don't I bet she doesn't. Go head and if you still don't think you should then ask her Doctor.

Check the manufacturers weight limits first, as long as the new car seat is appropriate for her weight it should be fine. My second car seat is rated for 5 to 100 pounds and most of them are in that range. Good luck, be glad she is small I had to switch my son at 4 months when he outgrew the infant seat. Let me tell you not being able to snap the infant seat into the stroller and shappoing carts was quite an adjustment especially before he could sit up on his own.

if the lbs on the century car seat say it is okay then I don't see why you would not switch, I just switched my son to an evenflo one because he was too big for the smaller travel system. good luck, Judy

the only transition that's tough is when the baby falls asleep..it's so nice to just pull that infant seat out of the car and hook it into the stroller and go...now you'll have to take her out of the seat and put her into the stroller/shopping cart and chances are, she may wake up! I would also make sure that donated carseat wasnt used before, if it was used, make sure it wasn't in a car that had an accident. If it was, Id say dont use it!

hey M..... I am having the same issue, but I am concerned about the weight. It says e has to be 21 pounds and I dont even think he is 18 yet...he is so snug in the one we have know and the next one is bigger and nicer and so inviting. Please let me know what you get for respponses because I would love to know. I am an new at this sight and am not sure if you can read responses from other people. ok Thanks :) L.

Fair warning, it is not going to make life easier to move her. It was so sad when we had to give up the car seat carrier system. It's so much more convenient than the regular car seat. They wake up when you move them out of the car, you can't put them down for a second while you unlock your doors or put something in the trunk like you can with the carrier, and a sleeping baby at around a year or so is 20+ pound of limp dead weight without that seat!

That said, yes, as long as you are following the guidelines put forth by the previous posters, you can safely move her. She's about to outgrow that seat, anyway. Most carrier type infant car seats have both a weight and height limit. For most seats, including the Graco Snugride that everyone seems to have, the height is 28 inches. She's getting close.

As long as the seat you were given is a convertible infant/toddler seat which can be used rear facing, go ahead and use it. I would just make sure that specific seat is ok to use for infants under 20 lbs.

Hi M.! I think it is ok to move her - I did my son - I bought a Britax car seat from BabyLand - Which I LOVE! My husband bought one for his truck - which he loves too.
We had my son in the travel seat just until he was three months then we had to transfer him to the new car seat.

we just went through the same thing--our daughter ella is 5.5 months old, and a whopping 20 lbs and about 26 inches. we decided we needed to make the switch because she was so heavy, but it seems like you can do it whenever you want to, as long as it's a rear-facing seat--they are made for newborns! i do recommend using a head support if the carseat doesn't come with one, because when she falls asleep, her head tips to the side.

as for your back...getting used to lugging ella around without the carseat has been rough on my body. make sure you pick up some aleve or advil for the transition!

I would check the weight and height requirments on the Century car seat. I moved my daughter from the travel system baby car seat when she was 2 months old and moved her into the britax convertable seat ( can be used from birth-40 pounds). Just check the Century before transfering her, and if your concerned or confused by the info I would contact your pediatrician.

As long as the seat is a convertible seat, made for infants rear-facing you should have no problem. I had the same issue with my daughter, and the seat I switched to was good for 5lbs and up.

putting your child in a rear facing carseat should be fine. personally, i have never used on of the carrier seats, aside of in the house as a seat for the baby. I have had both of my children in the carseats that go from newborn strait through to booster seat. I love them and if i were to ever have another, i would do the same. i also always suggest that kind of seat to anyone who is having a baby. I find them to be more comforting, because they are snuggly in the car. anyway, i hope that helped.

As long as she's rear facing, the donated seat hasn't been in an accident and isn't meant to be a booster car seat (usually has weight specs of 30lbs+) it should be fine to switch her. my oldest was out of the carrier car seat around 5 months (mainly because she outgrew it lol). L&M hospital has a car seat clinic 2x a week...you could make an appt. for that to make sure the seat you have is okay and that it's installed correctly. HTH

As long as the seat is rear facing and she can support her head she'll be fine. When my daughter was 9 months I had to switch her from an infant carseat\carrier to a standard rear facing seat because she exceded the height limit on her old one. (I switched to a graco convertable @ 1 year I put it forward facing and it's good up to 40 lbs, she's almost 4 and we're still using it).
