I just wanted to see if there were other mothers out there had a child will a extra toe or finger. My daughter is 6 months right now and she has two big toes on her right foot. Everyone (including doctors) are tellin me different things some are saying to take it off now and some are saying to waot until she is at least 1 year old. I am just so confused and wanted to see if anyone else had gone through this.

What can I do next?

I am no Dr. but you would think the younger the better, extra toes and such shouldn't be a big deal anylonger.

My nephew was born with an extra pinkie finger. If I remember correctly, they had the doctor remove it around 9 months old. In a nutshell, they tied it off and just let it "die'. They did not have any problems.

My sister, who is 19 now, was born with an extra thumb. She had it removed when she was 6 months old. Everything went wonderfully and there were no issues whatsoever. She is completely fine now - you cannot even see the scar. Good luck.

I, myself, was born with 12 toes. I had extra pinkies on each foot. When I was 4 months old, the Dr. decided it was time to remove the extra "digits." They thought they could tie the string idea, but I had bones in the toes. Therefore, they were both surgically removed--very minor surgery. Today, I have little scars on both feet. I wonder if it would be better to do it now, since she is younger and it would probably be less traumatic on all of you. Go with the Doctor you feel most comfortable with. Best of luck.

C., MY NEPHEW WAS BORN WITH TWO LITTLE TOES BUT ONLY ONE HAD A BONE IT WAS REMOVED BEFORE HE STARTED WALKING. PERSONALLY I WOULD HAVE IT REMOVED NOW. SO THAT SHE WILL NOT BE TRYING TO WALK WHILE IT IS HEALING.A.

My Aunt was born with a second thumb. They took it off when she was about 10 months old. They surgically removed it. If the doctors are telling you different things, then I think you just need to decide what is best for your daughter. Having two toes may affect her ability to walk well when she starts doing it. And if you wait until she is 1 and already walking (possibly) then she may have problems adjusting once it is removed. I wish you the best of luck.
