I have a 4yr. old granddaughter who has a wart on her knee and 1 on her foot. She began to play with the bubble on her foot and now the warts have spread to the backside of her knees. Her doctor says to leave it alone, and eventually they will fall off.Has anyone ever encountered this problem, and is there a way to get rid of them sooner, other than having them burned or frozen off?

Is it a regular looking wart or a plantar wart? Plantar warts are usually found on the bottom of feet and on the knees from crawling and look like inverted pyramids. Regular warts I wouldn't worry about too much, but Plantar warts are extremely painful - almost as if stepping on glass each time you walk. My daughter had them on one foot and they spread to the other foot. We had to use over-the-counter medication and special pads that essentially froze them off. We also had one treatment in the doctor's office. It took about six months but eventually they fell out, leaving holes in her feet where the warts had been. Now her feet are fine.

Duct tape! I'm serious! My son had two on the bottom of his foot and the doctor said we could do duct tape or compound W. You change it when needed or once a week. They haven't come back.

My 4 yr old son had a wart on his finger. We used the Compound W band-aids. They didn't hurt at all and it is completely gone now. I wouldn't use more than 1 at a time and then take a break between them to not have to much of the medication in her little system. They are safe though. Our pediatrician is the one who recommended the band-aid type of remover, kids tend to leave them alone when they can't see what's happening.

Hi N.,

Give her homeopathic Thuja 30C (should be available at any health store), a few doses over the course of a week. You can dissolve the pellets in water or juice and then let her drink the liquid.

Best,

Tea tree oil works wonders on warts! You can also put a small piece of duct tape over the larger ones to suffocate them. Warts respond very well to "suggestion" too, so if you tell your grand daughter that you found the perfect wart remedy and make sure she believes it will work, you will have great results. Good luck!

We were told the same thing with our young daughter...to leave them alone. You can buy stuff over the counter but its a process. I have had warts all my life and had them burned off, not real painful but scary for a young one. Our daughter has had one on her foot and believe it or not it has gone away. it may come back tho.

My daughter had warts on her fingers and they just kept spreading to other fingers. My son's went away on their own, but my daughter's just got worse. The dermatologist told me to soak the warts 2x per day, like in the bath. Then you gently scrape as much of the wart off that you can with something sharp. That gets the dead skin off. After that put Compound W on and cover. She did say duct tape, but not because it was special it just stuck well and wouldn't let the medication rub off. I used bandaids because they were "pretty" and my daughter would keep them on. The Dr. did burn a couple big ones after giving the advice. Within a month all of them were gone and haven't returned.

eventually they will fall off. you can tell her not to touch it a million times, she is 4....and, they can all get burnt off. If her ped doesn't want to do it-a dermatoligist will.

My daughter had small warts on the backs of her legs. What started out as a few little bumps turned into approx 40 They tried to freeze them but it did not work. Then the Dr. put some sort of liquid which turned them into a very large blister about the size of a cherry. The liquid going on did not hurt her, but the blisters were a hassel. Once they popped we aired her leg out and all of the warts went away. It took about a week. This was the only thing that worked for her. If we would have left them alone they would have spread all over her based on the way they were popping up. We have not had any more come back. I hope this helps

I have treated warts in children "My nephew" being one of many children with warts. Instead of burning anything off I would try a easier approach. See a homeopath and have them get on a good remedy they should just fall off and never return. I've seen it happen with experience. Here is my website www.theartofcure.net... let me know if I can help

Hi N.,

I have a friend who swears by raw garlic. Just rub it on the warts. It might smell but it's less painful than getting them burned or frozen off, especially for a 4yr old. Good luck!

garlic has anti-fungal properties, also check out Pau'D Arco and St. John's Wort. Do some research on them first. :)

This same thing happened to me when I was little- before I knew it I had warts all over my hands and knees. My mom tried to treat it naturally with vitamin E and also tried over the counter products. Nothing worked. My advice is to get her to a dermatologist pronto! A lot of times if they get rid of the 1st wart that appeared the rest will just fall off. Also, they treat warts every single day so they know the best way to get rid of them. Nothing against a regular pediatrician, but why not go to someone who specializes in this sort of thing? I am sure your pediatrician will give you a referral if you ask.

The inside of a banana peel has some sort of acid that kills warts. My husband uses this whenever he has had a wart. Save your banana peels and rub the inside of the peel on the warts a few times each day. Then, if possible, cover the area so whatever is left on the wart does not get wiped off. I am not sure how long it takes, it may be as long as a week or 2, but my husband says it works everytime.

Good luck!

I recall reading an article just recently about using ducttape on warts. There's something in the compound that helps eliminate the virus. You put the tape on during the day and leave it off at night (I think the info was on MSN). Of course, make sure you replace the old tape with fresh tape until the wart is gone.

It's called Molluscum Contagiosum. It's extremely common in kids and even more so in the summer months since you can get it in swimming pools and such. You can Google it and find out more about it. Most dermatologist will use a liquid called "Beetle Juice" (no joke) to get rid of them, but it usually only works if you can catch it before it spreads too much. If you go this route, get them to treat each and evey bump. It's the white stuff inside the bump that causes it to spread. This comes out when the kids scratch the bumps or they break open during play.
Good luck. They will eventually go away on their own, but honestly it could take years.

if they're not warts, they might be a skin condition called eczema which could require a daily cream to be applied...

i get these small bumps, liquid filled on my hands and sometimes feet, its due to extreme dryness... I love hot water showers and hot water dish washing... so i've cooled it on the hotness of the water and have to apply Clobetasol Propionate (used externally only) with each occurence...

They go away but return we I start forgetting to cool the water... :-)

Good luck and get a 2nd opinion...

I read online that Acai juice helps get rid of warts. My daughter has one on her thumb and I have been giving her the juice and it seems to be helping, it is drying out. It has lots of antioxidant properties and tastes like blueberries. My 22 month old loves it. I buy it at Whole Foods and Costco.
Best of luck.

A weird thing that my grandma told my husband was to put duck tape over them. Old wives tale says that it sufforcates them but it worked even when the frezzing didn't. she just said to make sure it was the gray one. And to clean the warts and the area around the very well before. Also use gloves when taking the tape off and dispose in plastic bag so you don't spread. maybe try on one just to see if it worksfor you. good luck.
