Hello moms - I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on "appropriate" Halloween costumes for a mom in her 30's. All of the costumes I have looked at are too revealing for me. I am not very creative, but I could put something together if someone had some ideas. Thanks in advance for your help

What can I do next?

I have been a butterfly (they sell adult sized wings) and Little Red Riding Hood. You can buy a pattern for the cape and I wore a simple dress with tights underneath. Both were very comfortable and easy!

Here are some questions to help: What are your kids doing - can your costume tie in with theirs? What do you like? Can you put together a costume that goes with that (Tv, sports, animal, etc). What do you have in your closets - all of them - who knows what you'll find in there! (My older sister made a witch costume with an old graduation robe :) Then check out thrift shops, etc. You might find something fun! Good luck!

I went as a Starbucks employee one year - black pants, black shirt and a green apron. Too much eyeliner and some funky hair and I was set. . .
I have also been a cowgirl, a mean mom (housecoat and devils horns), a witch, an M&M (plain shirt, black pants, Big M on front and back), a gypsy (long flowy skirt, blousy top, hoop earrings, barefoot, lots of scarves), a burp cloth (all my stained white clothes from colicky baby), and a hobo (husband's torn up work clothes). A friend of mine went as a woman electrocuted by her toaster - housecoat, toaster in hand, and ashen face with hair plastered straight up. It was hysterical.

Hope this leads you into your own great ideas!

Hubby and I go to an adult halloween party every year. Last year we were a geisha and a samarai warrior, this year we are going as Charlie Brown and Lucy. I can't wait to call him a blockhead all night!

A friend of mine had an old bridesmaid dress that just happened to be Cinderella blue, so she pulled her hair back, used a black velvet ribbon for the necklace, found some long gloves, and she was Cinderella! Look in your closet and see if there's anything you already have that could be tweeked just a little, or add some accessories, and you've got a costume! I was a biker chick last year and didn't have to buy a thing, just had to do some thinking. Most of the costumes now are sexier, and I needed something that wasn't revealing b/c I worked at a daycare.

Go to Dallas Costumes....it's down by the Galleria on Alpha. It's the largest costume place in the metroplex. You can rent and buy costumes. More importantly, they have lots of "accessories". Sometimes a single accessory will really help you pull off a costume. It's very reasonable. You'll also probably get some good ideas. have fun.

I have recycled old bridemaid's dresses - I wore a green wig and grittery make-up and was an outer space beauty pageant contestant.
Or, go to a thrift store and by some funky, flowing shirts and skirts with a lot of jewelry, and be a gypsy.

What are you looking for? We were at Halloween Express in Plano yesterday. THey have a ton of different things and accessories.

They have a Lot of (mostly) sexy outfits but they had some frumpy and cute granny stuff too.

They had some cute outfits that were not that revealing as well. One year we went as a brick and a brick layer, LOL That was a hit.

My husband and I made Pebbles and BamBam costumes one year. Very easy. We both wore shorts under them and you can make it long enough to feel comfortable for you. Have fun!!!!

Going on the bridal path, my favorite costume I ever saw was someone who found postal fabric and sewed a simple dress out of it. She then added a veil and went as a mail-order bride!

If you and your husband are going as a theme, you could go as the "cat burgler". One dresses as a cat, the other as a burgler.
