Ok I really REALLY dislike flip flops, they are not comfortable on me but I want a easy slip on pair of sandals. I thought get a cheap pair of flip flops and crochet some cute sandals using the bottoms of the flip flops as the soles. So I have a cheap pair of flips, some cotton yarn (so if they get wet they don't have the yucky wet yarn feeling) but i can't decide what kind of pattern to make. I want to be ably to slip them on fast so I don't want buttons, or buckles. But I don't want them half falling off when I walk. Do i just make a couple thick straps? a few thin straps and then thin straps around ankle with elastic maybe? or do I make the sole, sides and everything like a regular shoe and put it on top of the flips?

I am just trying to bounce ideas ... get as many thoughts as I can so I know before I start whether it will be worth it or not.

Any ideas, or web sites with pictures would be great!!
Thank you

Here is a site with all free crochet patterns - this is the page with Shoes and Sandals/slippers:

I can't wear the all plastic flip flops either, they hurt between my toes, but if i can find the ones with a thin leather or a fabric thingy between the toes, they are not nearly as uncomfortable as those rubber/plastic ones.

I have been crocheting baby flip flops lately, and though the pattern is just the front typical straps, I have been adding a single strap around the back of the foot with elastic cricheted into it, and a button on the side to tighten or loosen it.

This is a great idea - I love it! Thanks for sharing. I wear flip-flops all summer and love them except the noise they make. Crocheting could be the answer!

There are many styles and pictures, I think it would be best to make a "cover" of sorts for the plastic parts but I am not sure really not my bag of tricks.

Just curious, but have you ever tried a good pair of flip flops? I used to buy cheap flip flops for the beach etc, and I hated them. I assumed I hated flip flops, until I was given a pair of good flip flops. Now I wear flip flops all summer long, just not plastic ones.
