Last night I asked about meds for ADHD for a five year old we have tired everything including changing his diet. He has been tested for everything. Nothing has worked. Does anyone have any natural suggestions. I don't want to put him on meds if I don't have to.

What can I do next?

Justs make sure he doesn't have anything with red or yellow dye in it, and some of the oddest foods do have it in, and food with additives of any kind could contribute,, so try and feed your child with whole or fresh food, no sugar, and I think I heard if they are extra up to give them some coffee, and this clams them down, which I know sounds odd, but somehow has the opposite effect.. But so many foods have additives in them or preservatives that can ad to the problem, that although this is a pain to look at labels and shop this way, it is cheaper than meds, and much better for your child, and the whole family will benefit as far as that goes.

We put my son on a natural supplement called Calm Child from Whole Foods. I went to the one in Plano and told them that I was looking for something that would help with all of his symptoms. There was another one that they had that was for five and over which would work for you (my son is only 3 1/2). We started giving him that and getting all our fruits from Whole Foods and it appears to be working (we are on week 2). Good luck, I know how stressful it can be!!

Many Dr's are quick to label ADD/ADHD and prescribe meds. There are other proven alternatives that can help improve focus and behavior in children. Diet can play a huge role. Do some research on the Feingold diet/Gluten free diet. I applaud you for seeking out natural alternatives!!!

In case you haven't heard of adaptogens, they are a category of herbs that help the human body adapt to stress, support normal metabolic processes, and restore balance. They increase the body's resistance to physical, biological, emotional, and environmental stressors and promote normal physiologic function. A lot has been discussed recently about adaptogens, even Dr. Oz on Oprah.

I highly recommend an incredible book titled Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina, and Stress Relief by Winston and Maimes. To watch a video on the history of adaptogens go to www.TunguskaMistNow.com to learn more.

Many parents have had wonderful results using the Tunguska Mist Adaptogen Sprays to help restore balance in their children and improve their focus and behavior. Teachers often comment that the student's grades go from C's/D's to A's/B's.

My husband and I have been taking adaptogens for a long time, and we're passionate about helping people reduce the damaging effects of stress and restore balance NATURALLY! Good luck and God Bless:)

I know Dr. Shepherd in Plano at Mountain Health uses natural remedies....Omega 3's apparently is one item but I am not sure what dose......I would recommend him.

If you are in Frisco:
I recommend Dr. Chalmers at Chalmers Wellness.

I know these two guys can order a blood test from Immuno Labs that will tell you exactly what foods are offending your child and I think they have a guarantee for 'hyperactivity' behaviors reducing when these foods have been eliminated. They may have other ideas too, but if you want natural....you will get natural solutions with these two practices.

I have a son with ADHD and we've done the Immuno Labs test that Kelly recommended. We found that my son has an allergy to gluten and a sensitivity to 18 things. In order to know what we needed to eliminate we had to take the test.

We find that when my son has anything with a trace of gluten or dairy in it, he will have off days 3 days later. Living a gluten free/casein free lifestyle is what has helped my boy. :) Last summer we pulled him off artificial colors and dyes. We didn't see much difference then, but it's totally worth a try.

If you decide to test your son for a gluten allergy, don't change his diet before you have him tested. It can skew the results.

Best wishes!
