Acupuncture to Induce Labor?

Has anyone used acupuncture to induce labor? Did it work? I'm due tomorrow and I think I'd rather try acupuncture before hospital type interventions if it comes down to that. I wouldn't want to go to someone who wasn't recommended though. Thanks.

Hi J.,

I am so excited for you! I was ten days overdue and went to see an acupuncturist because I was afraid of being induced. I went into labor the next morning! I highly recommend it. I went to Northwestern Memorial Physicans Group Center for Intergrated Medicine at 680 North Lakeshore Drive. You can look it up at nmpg.com Good Luck to you!

Hi J.,

I didn't try acupuncture with my 11-day-overdue son, but I did see a chiropracter, which I think made a huge difference in my labor and delivery. One of the last times that I went, I saw a massage therapist at the same office who used a pressure point on my foot to start contractions. Even though I was induced eventually, that pressure point did start contractions that lasted a few hours. The office I went to was Trimboli Chiropractic in Munster, IN. Hope that helps.

Hi J.- I did not have acupuncture but my Dr did "strip my membranes" in the office and it put me into labor with each of my first 3 kids, with #4 I just went into labor on my own. The office procedure is what I would call a "rough internal" which the Dr seperated your membranes from the uterus. Although midwives tend to use it more often both of my OB's did the procedure. the is no data to support this method but I thought I would throw it our there because it worked for me. I did not want interventions during my births either.
Good Luck!

I actually used acupuncture to get pregnant and had great success. There is a doctor named Fang Lin at the office of Charles Lo, MD, who specializes in fertility and female care. She is FABULOUS and I recommend her to everyone.

It looks like you received some great recommendations for accupuncturists. I just wanted to throw in that a bunch of my friends swear that eating a small jar of hot salsa put them into labor!

I actually did an enema and went to my OB apt (they were just making me check in before making me go and get induced) and my water broke when I got home. I swear it was from the enema!

I am a massage therapist and when I was in school, we had a reflexology class. Anyway, I remembered that there were certain points that would induce labor in pregnant woman, and when I was pregnant and past my due date, I emailed my teacher for his recs. Here was his response: "Try going to www.reflexology-usa.org and go under Illinois and then find a practitioner. If you live in Chicago I can suggest seeing Phyllis Garvey, or Harry Davis. If you are in the suburbs try www.reflexillinois.org and follow the same procedure." Luckily, I went into labor that night, so I never made the appointment. If your baby is in the right position, try squatting for as long as you can hold it, several times.
