Hi Moms -
Have any of you used acupuncture and/or herbal treatment to treat infertility? If so, can you please share your experience with me? Was it successful? How long did it take? Did you do it in conjunction with conventional infertility treatments?
Thanks!

I had a very wonderful experience with herbal and acupuncture for infertility. I did it in conjunction with IVF and a was lucky that both dr's were on the same page. I think the herbs helped me get on cycle, the acupuncture just got me relaxed, clear and my body focused and and opened up new pathways..if that makes sense- it made my body ready to conceive and was truly the most relaxing "treatment" I have ever had. I had it right after or before with my IVF, ( LOL I was so freaked out I can't even remember) as well, literally they did in in the room at the same time, which is supposed to help it take. Which it did for me, 1st try with IFV (which I think is lucky BTW) but I DO think Acupuncture and herbs made a difference, truly.

My oldest daughter is 8 years old and my youngest is 6 months. I began weekly acupuncture treatments after 6 years of TTC. (after our first daughter) My periods were all over the place and I was also spotting in between as well. I had no idea when I was ovulating. After 8 weeks of acu, my spotting cleared up. Then my periods became more "normal"...without the annoying spotting. We are lucky enough to have a community acupuncture clinic here in Ocean Beach, San Diego where it is only 20 per session. Plus Nicole, the owner has the midas touch I guess. When I first began treatment she asked me, "Are you sure you want to concieve?" 'Yes, yes!' I replied. I guess she knew her stuff. :) I was lucky to not have to try anything else besides acu. My best of luck to you.

Hey S.,
I did acupuncture for about a year before fertility treatments. We also hired someone at the lab we did the transfer who did a treatment right before transfer and immediately after. We got pregnant immediately.
I will also say that I have several friends who went through several rounds of IVF and when they did acupuncture they finally got pregnant. It's a fairly inexpensive therapy and really helps with relaxation.

My SIL did both acupuncture and Chinese herbs in conjunction with traditional fertility treatments, including medications and ultimately IVF. I am sorry to report that none of it was successful, but she was very optimistic going into it and she was diligent about her treatments, herbs and living a generally healthy lifestyle. She did those things for years, I don't know exactly how long. Good luck.

I did acupuncture in conjunction with my second round of IVF. I had asked my RE's office about it for my first round but for one reason or another I never called the acupuncturist that they recommended. My first round of IVF was initially successful but ended in miscarriage. For my second round I decided to give acupuncture a try. My acupuncturist was a specialist with infertility and had me go in on specific days of the IVF cycle and varied treatment slightly depending on how well my ovaries were being stimulated. I also went in for treatment right before transfer and continued to go for the first trimester to help prevent miscarriage.

I can't say for sure if that is what made the difference but I know it certainly didn't hurt. I really liked my acupunturist Dr Lee a lot I now have a beautiful 5 month old baby boy, so it s all worth it!!

I haven't had acupuncture for infertility but I have had it for almost everything else (for the past 18 years) and it works wonders! I would definitely recommend it! My acupuncturist is a fertility specialist. You can see her website at acuherbsonline.com. Good luck!

i think its a good thing to try for sure. i did it in conjuction with IVF. we were not successful, but who knows why. I think a lot of things depend on your age and your hormone profiles. good luck!

I started treatment in January. Now I'm overwhelmed and discontinuing treatment. I need a break. I figure it will be what it will be and I have to be alright with it.

Opted not to go with IVF. Ultimately life is good.

I tried acupuncture after going having a miscarriage after TTC my second for 16 months -- I conceived while on clomid, so I'd gone the traditional medical route complete with all the testing, etc. Anyway, my OB actually recommended Abigail. She worked out of the OB's office for years before opening her own business, so she knows her stuff as far as conventional infertility treatment as well as acupuncture and herbs. The combo of acupuncture and herbs got my cycle back in line quickly, and I was pregnant 2 cycles after my miscarriage. I am so grateful to Abigail for helping me conceive my little one! She's all the way in Glendale -- a pretty long drive from Encino. But it might at least be worth a call and see if she can recommend someone closer to home.

I would recommend Yoga. my best friend has serious health issues and could not conceive for a long time. I showed her some exercises which she did every day. It made her relax, and these things also increase blood flow to the organs, clean them up, help you ovulate etc. She was pregnant within 6 weeks. Many studies show results like that. You can look this up online, or find a class. Just do not put too much pressure on yourself. I even think it kind of helped my friend because she really did not even believe it. She just did the exercises to feel better and it worked.
