My son's dad is here on his visitation weekend and wanting to spend time with his him. Does anybody know of any cheap ideas or activities that he can do with him? I thought about a park, but it's so hot outside.

So What Happened?

Thank you for the ideas! He did take him to a park near me, but he was only able to play for about 20 minutes. Next time i'll be ready with fun stuff for them to do. Thanks again!

Monkey Joes is GREAT FUN as well! It is only $5 for children 2 & under and 3 & older are $9 I think. Adults are free. They do have food and drinks but if you are just going there so he can play than it shouldn't get expensive. You can take a sippy cup for him with his drink in it, I do this for my 3 yr old son.

I agree -- it's REALLY hot outside! They could do some outdoor stuff but probably shouldn't make it a whole day. And you'll want to make sure that your 2 year old is well hydrated and protected from sunburn, of course. I don't know where you live so I don't know exactly what's near you. But some ideas are Yellow River Game Ranch, Chattahoochee Nature Center, and the Atlanta Zoo for outdoor things. There are tons of indoor ideas too -- like puppet shows, museums, etc. An EXCELLENT site: http://gocitykids.parentsconnect.com/region/atlanta-ga-usa

Here where we live there is a public pool at the park. You have to pay a certain amount to get in but it is very minimum. I think here it is $3.00 per child and $5.00 per adult so its alot cheaper than say taking them to a water park. Also perhaps a friend has a pool that would be kind enough to let him take her??? I would google your local area parks or call to find out if they have anything like that or try a local YMCA.
I like the mall thing too-they usually do have a play area for the kids to play in and its air conditioned and FREE!
Another idea is to check with local churches in the area to see what they have going on for the kids right now since it's summer break. If the church is big enough they almost always have something going on and usually the cost is minimum and may even be like a donation type thing.

The Zoo - In MN there is a zoo called Como Park, that is completely free. See if there is something like that where you live.

Fair - See if there is a county fair going on this weekend somewhere near you. There aren't a lot of rides he can go on, so you won't have to worry about spending a lot of money on tickets. Plus, he will love looking at the animals in the barns.

the Library is a great place to start and the North Point mall has a merry go round in the food court.

-Go look at the fish and animals at the local pet store/animal shelter
- Chuck E Cheese is fairly cheap if you don't eat there. My 26 month old rides the horse, goes up and down the slide, plays a few other games, loves to ride the Jurrasic Park game while I shoot the dinosaurs (it's a bumpy ride)
- yes, a park can be fun, but in Texas, we understand the heat. Bring water and/or a picnic. Go early in the morning before the sun heats everything up.
- when we were in California, my son LOVED Jumpin Jammin. Not sure if you guys have those in Georgia. FUN. Perhaps there's something similar to that there in Carrollton - a 'fun family center' type place.

Hello, Not sure where you live, but there is a great small water park with zero entry and has a play set in the water. Google, West Gwinnett Aquatic Park and look at it. I think it's free for your son and $10 for adults. You can
pack a lunch and eat there. They open at 12. I think it would be good for two hrs. Just keep him hydrated and sunsceen. Maybe even a hat. Fun and cool for adults, too.

Bubbles, Sidewalk Chalk, Swimming, Coloring, Fingerpainting, playdoh are all really inexpensive and good parent-child activities. Just taking a nature walk somewhere is fun for exploring toddlers. If it's really hot (and if it's like here...I know it is) try finding an indoor area where he can go. Some malls have kiddie play areas and there are a lot of great kiddie museums out there as well. Most kiddie musems (the smaller ones) are not costly at all.

A lot of malls have a play area, library, maybe google child activities for your city or a bigger city around you.
