Dear Moms,

we are from Europe and we live here since some weeks. In a few days my 15 years old nieces will visit us for nearly a month. They are two very nice, friendly and lovely girls and it's amazing for them visiting their auntie in the US.

At the moment I'm planning our sightseeing tours, naturally the extensive shopping-trips and all the activities you've to do when you're the first time in the US. But, I don't want that they spent all their time with us. I want them to get in touch with other young people. They should get used to the language, get known the different culture and maybe become friends. The only activities for this age I've found are different Camps (dancing, sports and so on). But most of them take a long time or are too expensive.

Do you have any ideas, where my nieces could meet other teenagers on a easy but safe way?
It should be in the area of Wayne, Devon, Berwyn, Paoli, Malvern and so on.

Thank you so much for your help!

Dear Sylvia,
I know that the John Robert Powers Modeling School holds a social graces and cultural interest activites in Philadelphia. I do not know how expensive it is, but many years ago, I attended the school and was very pleased with what it had taught me.
You also might want to check out the Philadelphia Art Museum as it holds several week courses that are interesting and entertaining for all different levels of young people. My daughter attended one of the courses on artchitecture, and completed a 3-dimensional project.
The summer programs at the high school near me offers a television and videographer courses for young people in the district. You might want to check out the high school in your area to see what is available. The opportunities are there....good luck.

How about churches? I know they usually have youth groups. Though I'm not involved with any, I have many friends whose kids are active and enjoy the get-together's. There is also the YMCA. They are inexpensive and have lessons, etc.

No personal experience with this one, but I did have a couple of thoughts. First, I agree with contacting a few area high schools - maybe ask to be put in contact with a coordinator of a relevant club. You didn't say where in Europe they are coming from, but like a Spanish/French/German/International type club - it would allow the members and your nieces to get together and share things about their cultures/foods/etc. It would likely be a great experience for all.

Also, if you belong to a church, see if they have a youth group that might allow your nieces to join them for a few activities.

Also, maybe just mention it to neighbors, etc. that you know and they may know of people/places nearby that would be a good fit.

Have fun and enjoy!

They hang at each others house's, the mall, movies and do sports.

You could go to your closes high school and see if the principal know some girls that would not mind sharing some time with them.

Good Luck!
