I'm 30 years old and pregnant with my 2nd child. I have struggled on & off with acne since I was a teenager. Over the years I have found that OTC face washes with Salicylic Acid work best for me (except right now!). I don't remember having such horrible acne with my first pregnancy, but it is really bad right now. My first trimester was actually pretty good, no major breakouts. But since I hit my 2nd trimester my face has been horrible! I know it is all hormone related, so I'm not sure if there is any chance in clearing it up, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas (secret remedies, etc) that have helped them!
After I had my son, my face broke out so bad!!!! I finally went to dermatologist and was prescribed Azelex & Clindamyacin, which worked wonders! I still have a prescription for them and my doctor told me they were both safe to use during pregnancy. So, I have resorted back to using them with these recent horrible breakouts. However, they don't seem to be my "miracle" anymore. So, now I dont know what to do!! It is SO embarrassing to be walking around with a face like this!! HELP!!!

What can I do next?

I have been on everything, Proactive, Murad, retin-a, even on Accutane when I was a teen! Prescribed oral pills work best for me, but can't take those while pregnant or nursing.

I recently found this, and it works best out of all the over the counter acne creams ever, my face is actually pretty clear right now, and it reduces the size and redness of breakouts really fast, especially the painful ones. (I've only been using it for about 2 weeks, but noticed results right away).

I read the back, 10% benzoyl peroxide.. that is a lot compared to other creams that had maybe only 2%.

It's only about a $6 tube at the grocery store and it's awesome! Doesn't dry out my skin, doesn't bleach my clothes (that I've noticed anyways) doesn't get all flaky or cakey.

I just put it on 2 times a day, in the morning after washing my face and at night after washing my face, I put on a little bit on my bad areas and rub it in really good.

It's called AcneFree Acne & Blackhead Terminator 10, Time-Released 10% Benzoyl Peroxide. It's in an orange and white box, and an orange tube.

This is what it looks like and reviews:

There is also a baking soda mask and a salt treatment that works well too, if you want to try something all natural, but they are kind of messy, so it works well in the mornings or nighttime:

salt (read the comments, there are some tips in there):

I was told to quit proactive and any over the counter acne meds with salicylic acid or benozyl peroxide while pregnant.

I used Clindamyacin from my doctor for a while but I got immuned to it so I went to see a dermatologist who prescribed erythromyocin pads which helped. It is an antibiotic like clindamyacin that is safe for pregnancy. It's like a little wet wipe. Very convenient to use. Ask your dermatologist.

Trust me, I understand! I was breaking out all over, even on my ears and my back!!! Good luck!

I have the wonderful adult acne & Roseca I was so tired of my face with flare ups of redness and acne I went to see my dermatologist just a month ago & was prescribed 2 very expensive medications.(I hope they work)During pregnancy all things are out of whack I would start using Dove beauty bar using too much of the prescribed ance washes may irritate your skin causing dryness or oilness depending on how your body will react to it being pregnant. Also just a side note if your wearing makeup and apply using cosmetic brushes wash them at least a few times a month to get rid of bacteria if not it grows on the brushes and then on your face when applying your makeup. It may help to prevent breakouts

Skin is the largest organ and literally "drinks in" what you put on it, letting it get into your bloodstream and to your organs - and your baby - in a matter of minutes or even seconds.

What you put on your skin can either help it or harm it - and your entire body - depending on what's in the product.

Therefore, it's important to consider the ingredients in ALL the products you use - like those on your hair and body as well as your face.

The best treatments for any age or type skin are not the most expensive ones, but rather gentle ones that are effective - those with the highest-quality ingredients, not the highest price.

Chemicals are not gentle or effective. In fact, research is showing that a buildup of chemicals on the skin can cause acne, dryness (which leads to prematurely aging skin) and skin cancer.

With so many manufacturers using chemicals in their products, almost any product - cleansers, moisturizers, shampoos, shaving creams, conditioners, hair gels, sunscreens and makeup - can be causing breakouts on your face and body.

Here's a page that shows what to look for in organic products as well as ingredients to avoid in skin and hair care products. http://www.best-mens-skin-care.com/organic-skin-care.html...;

To find chemical-free products, read labels and research ingredients - or start with certified organic ingredients which don't contain harmful chemicals.

I have rosacea and use a 10% benzoyl peroxide otc product with my occasional breakouts. It clears them up in a day or two. Be warned tho that the peroxide will bleach the color in your pillow case.

One brand is skin colored and I use that in the daytime just as I'd use make up. Maybe I'm just fortunate that the color matches my skin.

Go to www.CosmeticsDatabase.com and enter these names of creams you are using and see how toxic they are.

What is acne?

Acne is : Congested pores Whiteheads Blackheads Pimples Pustules Cysts
These skin blemishes occur wherever there are oil glands, mainly on the face, chest and back.

What causes acne?

No one factor causes acne. Acne happens when oil glands come to life around puberty. Oil is a natural substance which lubricates and protects the skin. Under certain circumstances cells that are close to the surface block the openings of oil glands and cause a buildup of oil underneath. This oil stimulates bacteria ( which live on everyone’s skin and generally cause no problems), to multiply and cause surrounding tissues to become inflamed.

Who gets acne?

Acne can affect people from ages 10 through 40. It is not unusual for women, in particular, to develop acne in their mid-to-late 20’s, even if they have not had breakouts in years (or ever). Sometimes newborns have acne because their mothers pass hormones to them just before delivery.

Some medications may cause or worsen acne, such as those containing iodides, bromides, or oral steroids. Most cases of acne are not drug related.

How can the xanthones in Mangosteen help acne?

Xanthones in the mangosteen juice is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and hormone modulators. Since the cause of acne involves all three elements it makes sense to use the mangosteen juice. The juice should be taken by mouth three times a day and applied to all the affected areas using the cotton swab

Take half a bottle boil it down to half it’s amount to make it concentrated.
Bottle it and apply it to the surface.Take 2ozs three times a day with meals. And drink lots of water, preferable distilled water.
