Just found out that I'm pregnant with my second... and I don't have a doctor, and don't know where I want to deliver! Please let me know what you think, moms! I'm looking for a small, single doctor practice in the okc metro area and for recommendations for birthing centers/hospitals - I used to be sure Norman Regional Hospital would be the place I'd deliver, but I've noticed that quality of care seems to get worse as their financial situation gets worse - anyone delivered out there in the last 6 months or so? How was it? Help!
Thanks so much for taking the time to tell me your stories!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of your kind advice! I had one (and I stress ONE) appointment with Dr. Cherry in Moore, and ran (all but screaming) from there in a panic! He was very up front about HIS delivery plan, which included scheduling delivery a week before the due date and would include first breaking my water and then starting pitocin... I finally got a recommendation from my primary care doc for Dr Bruce Parker in Norman, and I love him and (more importantly) his staff! I feel very confident this time, that I've found a doctor who will work with me...

Hey! Congratulations on a new baby. I have a fantastic OB his name is Robert Ryan and he is at St.Anthony's. He has been in business for over 20 years and delivered all three of my kids. I love St.Anthony's hospital as well. The only thing is that they are a learning hospital, so usually Dr. Ryan is in the room helping the others, i am sure you can request otherwise if that bothers you... not sure how you feel about that, it didn't bother me too much. The nurses were great and they have the big queen size beds in a few of the rooms which is way nicer than a hospital bed. Hope that helps... his number is ###-###-####.
Good luck!

With my 3rd baby who was born 3 months ago,I used Dr.Kimberly Fletcher, she's at Moore Medical Center. I really liked her...my appointments were short and sweet and she's very knowledgeable.

If you don't mind driving way north, D.. Tallerico is just wonderful! However, I've not delivered with him yet! I'm only halfway through this pregnancy. I had a great doctor with my daughter...D.. Karen Wilks near Mercy Hospital. Then our insurance changed, and she's not on the new one! We tried several doctors during the fertility process, and we just love D.. Tallerico! He's in Edmond though...it's a pretty far drive for us! (From Mustang)

I have had two children with different OB's. My doctor with my oldest was Dr. Lesa Mulligan in Norman. I absolutely love her. She was also my doctor when I miscarried my second pregnancy. Due to insurance and logistic complications, I switched to Dr. Kimberly Fletcher with my second child. She was at A New Beginning Women's Healthcare then. She has since moved to Moore Medical Center physicians building I think. I received good care, but had horrible billing issues. On my first visit I specifically asked if she would deliver my baby and what would happen if she wasn't on call or whatever. She laughed and kind of blew it off and said she would deliver. Well lo and behold she was on vacation when I went into labor. Dr. John Cherry (who was also at A New Beginning) delivered my second child and charged twice the amount of my initial Prenatal agreement. I was told that since my doctor was out of town and Dr. Cherry delivered, he could charge whatever he wanted. Even though they shared a building, a staff, a billing service, equipment, etc., I was told they were in no way in practice together and I was hosed. So be careful, wherever you go!

By the way, when you deliver at Moore, you and dad get a steak dinner after you deliver, the nurses are wonderful, and you get a full body massage before you go home.

Hey H.!!I am about to move back to OKC. I am 4 weeks along first baby, congrats to you!! I just want to say you should check on Dr.JohnDosser in Okc. He's so awesome. I have been through so much with endometriosis and many obgyn's without being prego and he has been so amazing. My husbands insurance we dont know if his practice will be included but I would even pay out of pocket to go there and my baby be delivered by him. His staff is so awesome. They go out of their way for anything including the financial office. I love them all. He's so kind. Give him a try..kind of a drive from Norman but its worth it. Hes just a kind old man. Serious but soooooooo sweet. Maybe I'll see you there!!! Congrats!!!

Ps. My friends babies were delivered at Mercy and they were amazing to them. Their first baby so sadly didn't make it due to prior complications and a month or two later after their delevery the hospital sent them a letter omitting all their medical bills. How amazing. She has since had 2 healthy babies and loves Mercy hospital so that's another to think about!!!

My sister - in - law is to deliver there in February. (not sure if it is even open. I used MOORE with my son almost 3 years ago. They were a great hospital too. but now owned by Norman. Good luck and congrats.

H.,

I see Dr Virginia Vaughan at Lakeside Women's Hospital in OKC. While she has not delivered any of my kids, I was in the room when she delivered my nephew, now 4 yrs old. He was 5 wks early and turned blue moments after delivery. She kept her cool and made all of us feel that everything would be okay, and it was! My sister has gone on to deliver another child at Lakeside.

I delivered 2 of my 3 kids there, it wasn't open when my oldest was born. It was the best! The nurses and other staff are wondeful!
