Acidopholus for Yeast Infection

Hey Moms,

I've had a yeast infection for several days and bought some acidopholus a couple of days ago. Usually that does the trick, but I feel like this time I'm not making progress fast enough. I haven't had one in a long time, and I think I know all the tricks (stay dry, cotton panties, etc.), and I'd really like to avoid the Monistat. Any other thoughts? Maybe it's just bunk acidopholus, and I should buy another bottle?

Thanks,
L.

PS The bottle says one tablet daily, and I'm taking two. I'm eating yoghurt, too, and my diet is healthy. I think this one came from too much action in a short period of time. ;)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, everyone! I've tried a little of everything, and things are definately improving. I still can't say it's gone, though, and usually they clear up pretty fast. I've been sick this whole time w/some weird chest cold, too, so maybe my body is just having trouble getting back to normal. I'm going to keep up the home remedies for a couple more days, but if it doesn't go away completely I'll probably go back to the pharmacy to look for the AZO yeast or Monistat. Thanks, again! :)

Garlic. Cut a clove in half and use a needle to run a loop of thread through it. Insert it at bedtime just like you would an applicator-less tampon, leaving the string hanging where you can reach it - again, just like a tampon. In the morning, use the string to remove it and replace with fresh. It usually only takes me a couple of days to get rid of a yeast infection this way.

Go to your local health food store and buy natural apple cider vinegar. The bottle should say "contains the mother" and "aged in wood" to insure you are getting the purest vinegar. Then run a bath with the water over all the effected areas and pour a tablespoon or two of vinegar between your legs. Sit for 10 minutes or so. Do this every night. My daughter had a severe yeast infection from her diapers and this is what the doctor told us to do along with her medicine. It works wonders! Vinegar kills the yeast. We do it now every time she gets a little red and after 2 baths, it's gone. If this doesn't work after 3 or 4 baths, I would go to Monistat or seek a doctor's opinion.

My daughter, the certified nurse midwife, recommends using a tampon dipped in yogurt with live cultures. I know...it sounds kind of gross but she swears by it. Or there's a prescription med (Diflucan) that your doctor/midwife can prescribe. Hope that helps.

You may have a little bacterial infection and not a yeast infection. The symptoms are similar and the treatment is the complete opposite. This one is probably worth a visit to the doctor for a swab and a look under the microscope. Good luck, hope it gets better.

I agree with Deanna. You may have bacterial vaginitis (which is basically a bacterial infection instead of yeast). Same symptoms usually, but you need antibiotics to get rid of it. If the acidopholus isn't working, that's probably it. Your doctor can take a simple culture and give you the prescription. That's where I'd go!

The best probiotic available is Probiotic 12 Plus by Dr. Ohirra. It is a softgel and very effective against strong bacteria and yeast, such as MRSA and H-Pylori. It is highly adhesive to the colon thus works better. Not all probiotics are alike. Some are worthless. You can buy it online or at your local health food store. and it costs approx.$30 per box of 60 softgels.

Hi L.,

I use a product that you are going to love. It's called AZO Yeast and it works wonders. It's in tablet form and can either be taken just when you have an infection or once daily to prevent one if you are prone to them.

As far as the acidopholus is concerned I know it worked for me before...but I think it's non-regulated and you might have got a bad batch.

Good luck,

W.

Your yeast infection may not be localized. It could be a symptom of systemic yeast. I would suggest going online nad oggling symptoms of systemic yeast.
It can cause just about every ailment known to man--no kidding.
They will have a product at the healthfood store called "Yest'N'Check". I highly recommend it.
You would do well to follow a candida-fighting diet, as well, for the month or so you are taking the medicine, or much longer, if yeast infections have been a probelms for you in the past.
You should find that online, as well. There are several versions of it--just use what works for you.

Blessings on your health : )

Cut your simple sugars and starches (flour, potatoes, etc., fruit's still good) for a week or so, and up your consumption of antifungal foods & spices, and water. Also, make sure the yogurt you're eating is sugar free (no processed sugars either), or you're sabotaging your efforts. You can get a probiotic blend from someplace like Akins, just look for a stronger ppb (in the fridge). You can find some other good tips in this website: www.yeastinfectionadvisor.com :]
