Accidental I Love You

My dad was in the hospital for a while. I was calling my parents a couple times a day to get progress reports since I live so far away. In that time I had lots of family call me to share information. My dad's family is pretty lovey about stuff so every time I would get off the phone it would end in, "Love ya" or "Love you guys" something to that effect.

Let's just say it kinda got to a habit. So yesterday, when I ordered pizza, the pizza guy got a Bye...Love ya. Ugggh I wanted to die. I was hoping he didn't hear me but nooooo. I heard him laughing before I heard the line go dead. Sigh....

Any one else do that before?

What can I do next?

Suzanne: If you want to really make them laugh say Love Ya! The pizza guy thought it was funny as hell. :)

I use to work at Woolworths (a million years ago) and a really good looking man came in to the store. My co-woker Helene accidently ask "may I hold you" instead of "may I help you"......We still laugh about that.

Don't worry about it....the guy probably got a laugh out of too.

That is a game we used to play at work. Calling within departments or vendors we did regular business with. At the end of the call we would say "love you" and 99.99% of the time you got "love you" back. Priceless
Those of you at work, give it a shot!

Not that, but yesterday when the hair salon receptionist asked me how to spell my last name I started with "capital D" Boy did I feel stupid, I apologized profusely and explained that my brain went to autopilot from having to help small children spell things.

I don't think I have ever done that. But last month I had to go to the bank, I was in the drive thru lane. After finishing the transaction the teller said, "Have a great afternoon. Love ya." Even from the drive in lane I could see she was mortified. I couldn't help it, I laughed and told her she should get a raise for the wonderful customer service. She simply buried her head on her desk. :) So you are not alone.

Not to the pizza guy, lol. But when I was younger I can remember trying to ask my teacher a question and calling her Mom, and that was really embarassing at the time.

Also, I used to work at a women's clothing store, then I switched jobs to be a bank teller. A customer came to my teller window and I asked her if she found everything alright. Talk about old habits sticking hard! I must've turned 10 shades of red. :)

Oh J.-

That cracked me up!

The only story I have that is similar is the year I went to public school (after having been in catholic school for a while). I swear it took me WEEKS to stop 'blessing' myself when we stood to say the pledge...and a few more weeks to stop saying 'amen' at the end...lol

Have a great day!

Luv ya...

Amen.

Hahahaha! I worked at a pizza place as a teen and can remember that happening to me once. Guy said 'love you' as we hung up after he placed the order. We cracked up soooo hard over it and when guy came to pick up the pizza we all had a good laugh together :) You probably made the guys day!

Thanks for the laugh, I needed it.

I did the opposite, wrote this long email to my husband, it was a tough patch for us, just going off on him on so many levels, just letting it all go, not a nice email, well, I was so made in the process I never noticed until the next day I sent it to my male co-worker, you know on the subject line, I usually just put the first letter and the name appears, I didn't realize, I wrote to my co-worker. I never could look him in the eyes again. He knew my martial problems, even though he replied, I don't think you meant for me to get this, I will just delete it.

I've caught myself wanting to end the telephone call with "I Love You"; now that I said that, I probably will the next time I order something...

ok so I haven't done the love ya thing but I am a nanny for a family. The parents are divorced and I mainly work for the man. So I had been working for him for about a month and we have a pretty good routine down. As I am standing in the kitchen stirring my coffee he starts running some dishwater to do some dishes before he leaves for work. I said without thinking honey that's ok I'll get them. We both froze. And I was mortified. He was definitely not my honey lol. We are moving into year #3 now and we laugh about it but I was really embarrassed.

That's pretty great!!

A few months ago I called my little brother (he's 24) and got his voicemail, so I started to leave my message.... "Hi Mark, it's Mommy....Woah, wait! I DO realize I am not your mother, and that I am just your sister. Sorry, having a hard time getting out of "mommy mode" over here. Anyways, please call me, your sister, when you get this." He thought it was hysterical, and played it for my mom.

Sometimes when my sister and BIL come over, out of habit I will call my BIL, "babe," which is what I usually say to my husband when I am trying to get his attention. My sister does the same with my hubby. AUTOPILOT!!

When I was working, one of my co-workers would answer his phone, "Good afternoon, EMO Trans." The only problem was, it WASN'T afternoon, and we DIDN'T work for Emo Trans :)

Haha, yes. I've have done that to my pharmacist before. He just laughed and said goodbye. I wanted to die right there of embarrasment. I've always been in the habit of calling people "hun" I am from the south, and it just sticks. I used to call people I didn't know hun, and thought nothing of it. So, telling the Pharmacist, " thanks hun, love you" was just too much! Everyone thought it was a hoot!

It does remind me of something my daughter does, or at least used to do a lot. She would go stay with my mom overnight, and at first would keep calling her "Mom" by accident. By the time she comes home, she would be calling ME "Nanny" LOL

You probably made his day. They usually get the angry person on the line or the demanding don't put me on hold person.

It will be all right.

PS I usually try to make the person at the drive up window laugh and tell them that they made my day by smiling and remember when everyone else is mad at them someone made them laugh.

Bwahahahahahahaha

My Aunt and I started "Love ya' Bye" year ago when we sign off from the phone with each other. That has naturally spread to other family members and to close family friends.

Then I found myself adding it as an automatic ending to phone calls with friends, oh, and co-workers - which could be embarrassingly inappropriate. Sometimes, yes, with the pizza people also.

Luckily, I now work with an organization that is full of goof balls and no one thinks it the least odd when I end a conversation with "Love ya', Bye"

I did this about 2 months ago to a male co-worker...I was halfway tuned out at the end of the conversation and out of habit said, "love you". I quicly tried to recover so not completely sure if he even heard me correctly. He never said anything else about it and I talk to him daily...ugh

I'm 100% sure this wasn't the first time the pizza guy has been told this. I'm sure it happens all the time. I used to work for an insurance agent who was on the road all day long, every day. He had a cell phone built into his car before anyone even heard of a cell phone. He was the nicest man and I still consider him one of my best friends even though I stopped working for him 15 years ago.

He used to call me 100 times a day. At some point, he started ending our calls with "love you". We were so close that it never seemed weird to me (wouldn't fly today, I'm sure). So people used to pass by my desk and hear me ending calls with "love you too" and they'd often ask - so, how is your husband? (thinking I had just hung up with him). I'd laugh and say I was talking to my boss. The funny thing is that my husband and I NEVER end a call with "I love you". We just don't. I talk to my old boss a couple of times a year now and we still end our calls with "love you".

OMG, that is hysterical! That is my biggest fear at work. I am so with you when you say it's just automatic to say "love you" when hanging up. I swear I'm going to do it accidentally with a coworker sometime. In fact I've wondered on more than one occasion "did I just say 'love you'" when I said bye??!!! At least it was just the pizza guy you said it to and not a coworker!

My most embarrassing Love ya, was physical....
I was dating my (now) husband. We were at his male best friend house along with his friend's girlfriend. The four of us in the kitchen making dinner together. I stand next to my husband's best friend and proceed to affectionately rub his back while he peels potatoes. Uhhh....nobody said anything. For like five mintues! I finally realized I was rubbing the wrong guy, turned beat red, could barely utter an apology. Still bothers me that the guy never stopped cutting the potatoes and went with it. His girlfriend(now wife) still gives me the evil eye (like I was trying to steal the guy right there in their kitchen in front of everyone). And my husband didn't stop me because he thought it was funny and wanted to see how long it would take me to realize who I was touching. Yeah. Thanks honey!
