Well welcome to Texas. I just opened my In Home Child care in the East Plano area. I don't know what area you are looking for but I would love to offer my services to you. I am registered and Inspected by The Texas Department of Family and Protective services. My goal is to have not just an In Home Child care but funtion as a little school for the kids where they can have their first immersion in arts, learning and creativity. Make it fun to grow. I'm also planning to keep the kids active with exercises, stretching and basic PE, cooking lessons and music.

I had my daughter in one until the age of 3 then we moved and I put her in a regular preschool. I actually ran a home daycare after my son was born too. Check around, be sure you are comfortabe with them and watch your childs reaction. I had taken my son at the age of 1 back to where my daughter was (we moved a few times) and found that he didn't like to play alone in the playroom so she kept him in a high chair alot. We didn't realize this until we went to put him in the highchair for dinner and he started crying uncontrollably and hid in the corner. That was the end of that ! You can check the state of texas website under child and family to get a list of all home care providers. There are registered homes and listed homes. Registered homes go thru inspections by the state and if you call they can probably give you the date and results of the last inspection. I think home daycares are great but I have also had good experiences at preschool type daycares. Look around, there is a big difference in centers and homes.

If you're in Wichita Falls I strongly recommend Nakiea Turcotte. My kids LOVED her - still do.

I run a registered in-home childcare. For my personal experience, once the child turns 3, a preschool is better. Let`s face it, it is hard for one provider to take care of infants and at the same time teach a structured curriculum to the older kids. For this reason, I chose to care only for infants and toddlers until 3 years of age. Like other people said, do your research, ask questions, make more than one visit to the place you like and check references.

I have both of my kids in an in-home daycare. It was what I grew up with and wanted that environment for my children. The pros for us are that the kids are in a "home" environment, rather than in a "school" environment. I figure they'll have plenty of years for that. We're lucky in that we found a husband and wife team so they get a family experience. Of course there were concerns in the beginning because you just never know - it is so scary to leave your kids with anyone - at home or a corporate childcare. Ask a lot of questions, make sure they don't mind if you call often to check on the kids (esp. at first), and, of course, see how your kid is adjusting. Good luck - it is probably the hardest decision to make!!

My son stayed with his grandmother the first two years of his life. And then he became of hand full for her, so I needed to find a place for him. My girlfriend who runs an in-home daycare didn't have any openings for him. So we did the whole childcare center shopping. I did find one for him that I thought would be okay. My son never adjusted and he was there for nine months, unfortunately. When my girlfriend had an opening I filled it with him immediately. He absolutely loved being with her and the love that he received. He didn't like the childcare center because they didn't give him enough hugs. Can you imagine my heart being ripped out when he told me that? He has been with Yvonne for 3 years now and about to start Kindergarten. If you are in the Mansfield area, I would be more than happy to give you her info because she is fixing to have an opening.

Ask question and have a great feeling about the place. And don't be afraid to tell them what you expect.

we used in home until my son was 2.5 years old and I definitely recommend it. However, just like with a day care center, you HAVE to do your research because just like day care centers, there are bad ones out there.

Once they are of preschool age (2-3 years), I recommend either a preschool or an in home with a STRUCTURED curriculum, which very few in home places do. Don't just stick her in 'any' day care center... Do your research and find a place that fits your daughter's personality and needs.

You can read about licensing and any violations they have/had and also see what the violation entailed. You can search any type of daycare and search in a specific zip code. I've found 3 so far that are relatively close to me but I have yet to call them.

Does anyone know the typical cost of an in-home day care?

I recently began my own in-home childcare in Plano. I sent my own daughter, also 3, to in-home childcare while I worked as a teacher. I loved the experience I had so much that I decided to do it myself! I do think you have to do your research for sure and find one that suits you and your child. If you still haven't found that, then give me a call! My daughter would love another 3 year old girl to play with!

Hi C.-I used an in home child care. I prepared a list of all kinds of questions and then set up appointments to meet with about 10 different ladies. I checked references, checked the state website, and also threw some of my "mom radar" in there when making my decision. My daughter was born over two months early so initially, I HAD to do in home care to try to limit germ exposure. We had the same sitter for 15 months and she became a grandma AND had to return to work outside the home for financial reasons. Her rates were $40 per day or $165 per week.

I started a job across town that requires travel, so we wound up changing to a daycare environment. We had been at the same daycare for almost two months and my daughter was sick almost the entire time. Every week either my husband or I had to stay home with her for 1-2 days. I really liked the teachers at that daycare but at the end of the second month I decided that two months of constant sick couldn't possibly be right. Again, that mom radar. So we have started at a new daycare this week. My daughter seems WAY happier at this new place and we have made it through the week without having to stay home with her...but it's still a little early to tell. We are paying $152 per week at this newest place and this includes breakfast which seems rare at other places.

So to recap, Pro's of private care: smaller ratios, less illnesses, individualized attention, flexible pricing in some cases. Cons: Having to find backup care if sitter's sick or on vacation, limited hours (most don't work past 5 or 5:30), the majority are listed on the state website but not actually licensed so you have to work harder to check backgrounds, etc.

Pro's of Daycare: Curriculum based learning at many facilities, more opportunities to socialize with kids their age, Wider hours (6:30-6:30 is pretty common), have to have a license to run so you can read reports/violations on website, should have background check info, etc. onsite, etc. Cons: Many of these are WAY more expensive than homecare, more kids so less individualized attention if your child has special needs, more exposure to illness, some of these places have high turnover so you want to ask about how long your teachers' been there...
